Thanks, but even with the straightened shirt I don't think anybody would confuse this with a model shot. And if they did, I've been in the wrong profession these years. Oh well.

That is a great look (The skirt is wonderful btw).

I also like the colour coordination a lot.

Many years ago (as a student) it was fashionable for all fellows to wear "platforms" - basically just normal laced shoes but with several inches of sole and heel added. Never really saw the point in them as the ladies also were elevated several inches with their shoes so the net effect was zip. They did require bell-bottom trousers to be worn.

What I am really trying to say is that the look you showed in the photo is that of a person that is comfortable in what you are wearing and has no problems at all with it. If you compare the look with that of most models, even the male ones, that are wearing skirted garments the facial expression while not necessarily that of disgust is a look of "I'm doing this because I'm being paid for it" not one of "I really like this and its fun." Cualtron's look is the one that says "I really like this and it fun." It's just nice to see a look that doesn't look like "I really hate this but I'm getting money for it" that you mostly see from models.

Yes, I had some of those, both the bell-bottoms and the shoes. Frilly shirts, too. Apparently it was my Austin Powers period.

At best all fashion models tend to be blank-stared. I think it's so a nice smile or whatever doesn't distract attention from the garments. They're showing the clothed, not the model.

But as to, "I really like this and it's fun," is really important to me. It's the difference between, "There goes a guy who's having a good time being unconventional," and, "There goes a weirdo."

You just need the confidence to look confident.

I almost got a "you look lovely" comment yesterday.

I was wearing my black UK - for a couple of curling matches (that is curling in a kilt) - when a woman I have seen at the rink before came up to me and said (in a slight American accent), "I really lurrrv to see a man's knees!"

then carried on to say, "Ah! It's a Utilitikilt. Looks good!"

Fairly lifted my spirits.

I picked up another comment of "lovely" this afternoon whilst waiting for a pizza to be made. A woman who'd just received her order leaned over to me on her way out and commented to me, "That's a lovely colour.", probably referring to my purple walking skirt. Needless to say, I thanked her.

It might also have been the contrast between the purple skirt and the brand-new red brocade waistcoat that (finally) arrived today. That combination does make a rather powerful statement.

Once the weather cleans up enough to do outdoor photography I'll see what I can do about getting a couple of shots of what showed up today. in the box from California was also a purple double-breasted velvet waistcoat and a black satin cloak with a red lining. I need to figure out how to properly move in the cloak before taking any shots; this this is amazingly sharp-looking piece, but utterly alien at the same time.

You may chuckle Uncle Al, but I have had a hankering for a cloak for a while; although I baulk at the prices of the ones I've found to date.

I am after something practical that can be used when out and about with the dog, as well as looking right with more formal outfits when going out for an evening. I have had a look at Historical Emporium and their offerings look good for formal wear, but probably not so good for practical keeping the weather off. I will certainly be interested to know how Carl fares with his new purchase (especially if he gets caught out in the rain sometime).
