I would say "past" as it seems to modify the verb "drove", and "passed", I believe, is a verb, but I'm an American, so what would I know of the English language? And I like "manyone", and propose it be submitted to the Oxford.Big and Bashful wrote:Pelmut, I doubt it will have any effect whatsoever, this is central Scotland, not everyone but manyone (new word?) wear kilts for weddings, Burns nights, rugby etc. so they already know what a heavy woollen knee length skirt feels like. It doesn't seem to have changed the behaviour of many others.pelmut wrote:Even more interesting will be seeing how many others are encouraged by your example to try wearing a skirt themselves. There were quite a few questions, i.e. "Were you really wearing a skirt, why? was it a kilt? a dress? why? " etc.
No comments today, I am interested to see if that was it or if my skirt wearing is going to be an ongoing theme from now on.
I was surprised fairly recently when I drove passed (brainfade, should that be past? I'm getting senile!) a friends house and paused to pick some keys off him, he saw my skirt and asked what I was wearing, the same long denim cargo skirt. I said so, he said he wore something similar but only in his house. So maybe there are more shy but skirted men out there!

This is how I feel about my skirts and my colleagues / bosses. I want to be in control of the situation when they find out, i.e. by me telling them, not by someone seeing me skirted and the jungle drums beating. At weekends I almost never go to the town I work in - there is no reason to. I live relatively far from the office, compared to everyone else there, and AFAIK only one of them lives within 10 miles of me. So the risk is low, but it is still there.
I have let them see me in my plain kilts - one black, one blue denim. I garnered enough quizzical looks to be going on with, given I had only been there a few months. I still get the occasional remark, and when I do, it's as likely as not that the person will refer to the kilts as skirts. Which is fine by me, it'll be less of a shock when they see me in a skirt that can't be called a kilt!
Geez, last time I wore a skirt to work, the firm went bust within the year!

I live about six blocks from my boss's boss and walk, skirted, across the end of the block he lives on twice every Saturday. It probably wouldn't be a big deal if he saw me one Saturday, since I've already been in his office wearing a skirt.skirtyscot wrote:. . . and AFAIK only one of them lives within 10 miles of me. Thanks for confirming that my memory wasn't playing up! Anyway, back on topic (for a change), I have been wearing skirts to work 2 or 3 days a week since just before Xmas. Nothing to report though I do see a couple of look-down-look-back-up on occasions - so they obviously do notice but don't have any serious objections to it.
For instance today, I am wearing a khaki cargo skirt (a few inches above knee-length) and black tights. Top half shirt and sweatshirt.
Yesterday, I wore my black Skirtcraft skirt to work including taking time out of the office to get my car windscreen replaced (large crack almost full length of the window just appeared overnight a little over a week ago). The company doing it didn't even show a downward look.
Monday was trousers

Great to hear your continued skirting at work!

I am still a bit self-conscious but there have been no adverse comments and after the first few times, it does get a lot easier.
Had trousers again on Thursday buy am back with the black Skirtcraft skirt and tights today. Am also going out to lunch with some of the office staff- "payday Friday" - as well today so there may be some queries when we are in a more relaxed atmosphere. We'll see.
Ross
[ Corollary - now had lunch - 10 of us from the office - no comments or queries on the skirt. All OK

A variation of skirts at work . . .
I received a package from Lands' End at work today and a co-worker (who tends to ask whatever pops into her mind) asked what was in the package, new shirts? I said no, two skirts. All she said was OK. She's seen me in a skirt at work six or eight times since last July.

Re: Skirts at work
Well I managed to wear a skirt at work today. I had primed the event by telling several that I was going to so there should have been no surprises. We had a charity day in which we were encouraged to wear yellow. I wore a golden yellow Ben Sherman shirt, yellow above the knee skirt, yellow fine fishnet tights and beige Ellesse casual shoe. I'll post a picture soon. I actually took the tights off at half time as they were a bit warm. I had no bad reactions from any of my colleagues. Most were supportive and understanding. Only one, a young beanpole, asked why. I countered with why not and a brief defence. Since the checkout are was about waist height most customers probably didn't even notice. Of those that did I got quite a few smiles, good comments and when I had enough time good discussions. One lady called my attire distinguished. One guy was wearing shorts and I in the brief discussion I had with him I said that he can't imagine how comfortable and cool a skirt is particularly in summer and challenged him to try it.
Incidentally, MOH has been bed-bound with some sort of viral infection or even food poisoning, as the symptoms could match, with a high temperature and so on she was mostly asleep when I left for work and also when I arrived in. So I have managed to get away with it this time without any real grief. I didn't meet anyone at work that she is likely to meet so it's unlikely that she will hear about it. But if she does then I will downplay it.
Impressions. No bad experiences many good ones, some good comments and several genuine compliments. I enjoyed wearing the skirt at work but I like the shorter skirts and the retail environment is one involving a lot of bending and going up and down stepladders so I wouldn't really like to wear one during the day at work. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to do it but, no criticisms please, I think that for that environment I'll stick to trousers. Anyway I think that if I wore skirts full-time it would lose the novelty value for me.
Incidentally a colleague on the checkout reported that one lady customer commented that she wondered if I was wearing anything under the skirt as she thought that all men wore nothing under a skirt. I told the colleague that I found that offensive and sexist as she wouldn't have applied the same thinking to a woman wearing a skirt. My colleague agreed with me and said that she wouldn't have thought in that way.

I wouldn't worry about the novelty wearing off, though. Unless men's skirts become as common as jeans, that's not going to happen.
As to up-shots, when that's likely happen I just wear tights or black thigh-length briefs.

Re: Skirts at work
Thanks both of you. Tuesdays and Thursdays seems to be my day to work the rugs department. We sell small, medium and large rugs and they are displayed hung so I need to unhang one to sell and rehang replacements as necessary. Thursday is rug delivery day so I have about 100 rugs to depallet, transport from the warehouse to the shop floor, split the bag the rug comes in and hang the rug using clips. So those days there is a lot of heavy lifting as the heaviest large rug weighs in at about 25kg and up and down stepladders. Somehow all this activity doesn't seem appropriate for a skirt. But yes, I feel that I have accomplished a lot and I feel comfortable in my decision. I was looking forward to the experience but it was more different than I expected. If I worked in an office my decision may be different but as it is no, trousers at work. That last comma is really, really important as the phrase has a different meaning without it. Eats, shoots and leaves and all that.
And I don't suppose that the novelty will wear off.

I too still wear a skirt to work - thinking of breaking out a slightly shorter ones for the spring weather but its still too cold for anything much shorter than knee-length.
