Carl's avatar
I've often wondered....
What is it?
Looks like something off a schematic, but I really don't know. If so, what does it represent?

Re: Carl's avatar
I asked Carl that question in a PM when I was relatively new here. This was his answer:
It's a pentode, so you are correct that it's a form of vacuum tube. A pentode, however, has five elements whereas a triode only has three.
I'm an electronics geek from way back and got started in radio and TV repair when tubes were still in use, so I have a bit of a soft spot still for the old technology.
I used to read Popular Electronics back in the day and had speculated that his avatar was a triode.
