Out and About -- In the World at Large
Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I quite agree Jeff, we should try to look our best in public. Unfortunately we are not always successful.
It would be a pity if we gave the impression that we are skirted by accident or oversight rather by choice, or that we don't really care, or we could not make the effort to coordinate, or had just lost a bet !

That's a good look Jeff. One that I would wear although I don't have boots like that. Maybe I should get some.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Well, I look like a big grey sweater tonight as it has been cold and rainy. Grey cable knit sweater skirt from Woolrich, grey ribbed sweater from Royal Robbins, and thigh-high grey ribbed leg warmers atop black ribbed tights. But I didn't go anywhere because of the wretched weather, just watched that sucky game.

Got sent out on an errand run... Didn't bother watching the game. The local team wasn't in it, so, *shrug* no big deal.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Last night I had to give a talk to a local history group. I wore a shirt and tie, a formal greyish jacket and my long woollen 'floor-sweeper' skirt, which purely by chance turned out to match the jacket in colour and texture.
Not one comment, not one sideways look that I was aware of - nothing.
...and wasn't I glad I had worn my lovely warm floor-sweeper, the heating in the hall wasn't working properly.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I've been having dreams of black water and alligators lately, so I went for a short hike today in the Holly Shelter gamelands; short because we have had four times our normal rainfall for February (with an estimated three more inches coming next week) and the riverside trail was washed out and draining the usually flashboard-weir controlled swamp into the Northeast Cape Fear River. I chose to keep my boots dry and turned back. I wore the grey Jack Wolfskin trail skort I got a while back with a black LS travex tee. The weather was good for a change. Met a couple with dogs and chatted. No mention or even apparent notice of the skort.

Even though Saturdays are for being casual, perhaps even a little sloppy, I prefer to dress up and look sharp as illustrated by what I wore below yesterday. Went to the bank to conduct some business (and was complimented by a teller on my handbag), drove to a crowded multiplex to see Deadpool (awesome movie by the way) then did a little shopping afterward. All in all, a great day!

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Took our daughter out to a wonderful SE Asian restaurant called Indochine last night. I wore a long gray skirt with gatherable side seams at the hemline. It's a favorite of mine. Wore a blue-grey sweater, and dark red tights underneath to give a flash of color. Got quite a few looks as the place was crowded and standing room only when we waited at the bar. But after a couple gin & tonics, I didn't notice them. The panang curry was excellent.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I was out running errands and shopping all day with the wife. I was in a denim skirt just above the knees and black tights. I was in about 6 stores and noticed some looks. One lady about 20 something smiled at me. I have no idea if it was because of the skirt. I had to go to my pharmacy to pick up a prescription. I was in line and an older lady behind me commented favorably on my "fashion statement". I told her thanks and that I've gotten a few comments from women but none from men. She looked at me and smiled then said; "That's because they don't know how comfortable skirts are." I said, "you are correct."

On Friday evening i was sat having a beer and chatting with a few of the regulars at my local pub when a guy walked in wearing a red mini dress, no make-up or wig etc and it was obvious he wasn't trying to pass as a woman, he went to the bar and bought a drink and then disappeared into another room where a private function was being held so i never got chance to speak to him or grab a sneaky pic, i didn't see him again as i left the pub about an hour later but a couple of the regulars turned to me and said "looks like you've got some competition"

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I need a new bottle of butane gas for the workshop heater. There's a garage a mile away that sells it on the forecourt, so I took the empty bottle in the car.
I wore an ankle-length dark grey A-line denim skirt and a thick top coat.
Walked into the shop and the assistant was more interested in the size of the bottle and if she had one in stock. I paid for the new bottle and went out to the the cage where the bottles are kept, to wait for her while she served a couple of customers who came in behind me.
There were people filling their cars who must have seen me, but no-one made any comment or appeared to notice what I was wearing.
Another confidence boost

Denim 'A'-line is great for going unnoticed. I've only ever once heard "What the f*** !!?" in my many trips to builders' merchants and similar macho places.Charlie wrote:I need a new bottle of butane gas for the workshop heater. Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I've spent most of the past week trying to track down an intermittent fault in a large CNC machine at an engineering factory. Today I finally found it and got the machine running again. One of the engineers offered to take me down the pub at lunchtime, so I promptly hopped into the back of my van and changed from my work boots, filthy pullover and oily trousers with the worn-thin knees into some smarter boots, a clean pullover and a denim skirt.
We had a bit of a laugh about the comments this might generate in the pub - but it actually passed completely unremarked. I then returned to the factory to give the machine a final check-over and pick up my kit - again, not the slightest comment from any of the engineers.
The invisibility of denim.
