Musicians still with us

Post by Uncle Al »

Image
Some of them I liked, some did not like and some I've never heard of.

Guess I'm a bit like Gary(mugs-n-such) by having my
head in the sand to much when I was growing up :D

Interesting but worrying; when I was young many weren't a lot older than me.
I didn't have my head in the sand then - but under a car bonnet; to the same effect.
My name is Anthony, please accept me for the person that I am.

Scary how time has moved on! It's hard to even think of all those (many of my favourite) musicians as pensioners!

It's true, as the advertisement says, you're as young as you feel. Just don't ask me how young I feel when I read the local obituaries...to make sure I'm not in them.

But, how about "Weird" Al Yankovic? How can he possibly be left out of that mix? Oh, the humanity!

And how about Bill Frisell? He has a new albumn, and it's excellent.

Hi Carl,

He's too young for this list... :) He's 56, according to Wiki.

How about Paul Simon - composed music of various genres and was instrumental, but severely criticised at the time, of bring out South African music. He's the right age and should be on the list.

Has Dave Gilmour been mentioned? Pink Floyd have been a favourite of mine since erm 1977 when I discovered Wish You Where Here.
One of the finest guitarists, a brilliant voice and part of a group which for many years made music which just grabbed my emotions and played with them. I have always loved music which moved me, Pink Floyd could do that, sometimes with just one chord.

I love Gilmour also. I recently heard a version of Comfortably Numb with Van Morrison singing in the refrain. Not sure but I think it was from the Scorcese film The Departed, or perhaps for Carl's sake I should correctly pronounce it The Depatted  , but I can't recall for sure. Gilmour's solo albumn was outstanding too. Remember the song There's No Way Out Of Here?

I was just wondering too about Peter Green, the original Fleetwood Mac producer, and blues musician. Ah, Google suggests he's alive. He wrote Black Magic Woman that became Carlos Santana's incredible hit. I've seen Santana three times...back in the Seventies. The first time, Santana opened for Eric Clapton. Poor Clapton couldn't match that performance, despite being very good. Especially when they jammed together as an encore on Jimi Hendrix' Little Wing. Just incredible.
