Erm, I presume this means something to someone, not me though! I haven't the faintest idea of what you are on about!Bamaskirting wrote:Just wanted to share a good Roll Tide with you all. I am so happy to be a Bama fan.
Feel free to enlighten me about what Roll Tide is, it's something I haven't even heard of before. I am intrigued!

It has to do with College Sports. One of the Universities here in the USA is known as Bama but is Ii believe more properly know as University of Alabama. Apparently they are doing well in one of their sports programs so thus the post. If you're a Bama fan then Good for you if not I'll let it pass and keep going.

I can't speak of the Academics of the school. But I know there are plenty of successful graduates out there. And we have the best football team. Gymnastics are great. Golf and tennis too.

Re: Roll Tide!
More than a few years ago, in fact more than a human generation ago, I worked for a company based out of Huntsville, Alabama. During one stretch, when the southern boys' team were doing very well, and the "Red Tide" as they called themselves (which means something altogether different to New Englanders) was rolling along they used to badger us about the fact. That was until U of A received a plastering from one of the New England "schools'"[0] teams, got sent home in disgrace, and I merely remarked on the Company internal comms network that, "The tide is out." (Sailors will get the reference.)
I'm assuming that the southerners roiled at the comment, but it was well received from Virginia all the way to Maine.

There have been altogether too many documented cases of "schools" padding the grades of their star jocks in order that they remain being allowed toworkplay for the Athletic Department -- which in some cases frequently has a budget that outstrips the academic budget..
