Linings

Over the years I have vought several lined skirts, a couple from Midas, the latest is a style J not denim skirt. With the Midas skirt, I always thought there was a problem with the lining as in it must have been cut slightly "tighter" than the skirt, because on both of them the lining had split along a seam.
Yesterday I noticed the same problem with the lining of the Style J skirt, Why do they make the linings like that? I would have thought the lining should have enough fabric so that it shouldn't be under tension inside the skirt.

The linings probably shouldn't be under any sort of constant tension, but they do need to be narrower -- somewhat -- than the skirt to keep from bunching up underneath and causing bulges or other problems with the external appearance. Linings are also usually made from lighter, more "slippery" fabrics than the outer shell and that'll lead to comparative durability problems.

Fortunately, linings aren't designed to be visible, so when one wears thin or splits -- and seams are a weak spot in any construction -- they're easy to patch up even if one is completely incompetent as a tailor. Simply get a strip of a similar material and sew it to the surface of the lining between the lining and the skirt shell, and get around both sides of the damage with new seaming and you're done.

Generally I find that linings are the right size. But I have one skirt which is quite flared but its long is pretty much straight. So though it looks like you could run up the stairs three at a time in it, you would actually fall on your face. Sometimes I remember to take fairly small steps; other times it drives me nuts.

I should put an extra panel in the lining, obviously. But why would anyone design a skirt like that?

I don't think any of the skirts I wear often have linings. I have to add them myself as a separate garment.

THIS would make an excellent "liner".
I would like to order a couple but they
don't come large enough to fit me.
Maybe it would work for some of you guys

In your post clicking on "THIS" results in being taken to the Hanes website.
Fine all well and good for about 3 seconds then a window appears wanting my undivided attention to sign up for ads.
I don't want that so I click on the little RED "X" in the upper right corner - NOTHING HAPPENS !
I go down into the ad box and try to click on No Thanks - NOTHING HAPPENS !
I try to back out of this page - NOTHING HAPPENS !
Frustrated I do the three finger salute CTRL-ALT-DEL - bringing up the TASK MASTER click on the Hanes link
rendering the BLUE SCREEN - then restore my route back to the SkirtCafe.

WHEW - I hate that when that happens - a total lockout/down resulting in the "Brute Force be with You" Star Wars escape !

Anyone else having a detour around Alderon and having to CTRL-ALT-DEL the "Death Star" ?

RMA, funny the link is ok for me. Maybe it's because I'm on the other side of the pond. I do like the dress though and the price is fine too. I haven't looked but I assume that as the price is in dollars they are west of me - a great distance west otherwise I may have been tempted to order one. An XL would just about fit.

tHE RED CROSS WORKED FOR ME, BROWSING USING cHROME. (lOOKS up and has to apologise for unintended use of the Caps lock key! A capital offence!) Yes, that would line things well if made in elephant size for me. I need clothing big enough to fit a small planetoid these days! I keep getting complained at for affecting the tides around here!

Not many skirted men around me, it will be different at the Hogmanay ball though, I reckon many kilts will be dusted off and polished up for the occasion. I will be sitting backstage in one corner with a mixing desk and a magnum of red wine for company, kilted of course, I don't often get an excuse to wear the full outfit and as I hated dancing even when I had knees that worked properly, the mixing desk is a good excuse to stay out of the way, not have to make small talk and keeps me from forming a gravity well on the dancefloor!

Uncle Al, link worked fine for me, and the dress looks good. I've worn similar (although a bit longer) as nightwear and occasionally us underwear/lining for years. Works well as both, although I've found the top and skirt part are inclined to part company! Better solution is probably a T-shirt dress like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00V ... 1_1&sr=8-1 - bodycon, but very stretchy fabric.

I have a floor sweeper skirt, white, that is a bit see through. It has what is called a modesty lining. It is much shorter than the skirt itself for obvious reasons.
