Wearing pants at the hospital
Wearing pants at the hospital
My wife was admitted to the hospital last week and diagnosed with a brain tumor. They surgically removed it but then found another on her lung so, yes, it's cancer.
I've been wearing jeans this whole time but now she's home I can't wait to get back into a skirt or kilt.
there will be many trips back to the hospital for chemotherapy treatments and I most likely will be back in pants for those times.
Her prognosis is good and hopefully she'll be back to her normal self soon.

Re: Wearing pants at the hospital
Sorry to hear about your wife, and best wishes for a full recovery.
Just out of curiosity, though, what's wrong with wearing a skirt to a hospital? I've done it and the staff in particular is very non-judgmental and takes it in stride.

Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

God bless - God speed the cure and recovery.
So what is this about pants/jeans ?
Is the hospital off limits to skirts and kilts or is it a matter of not wanting to embarrass the wife.
I think for you it is way pass the point of your own personal embarrassment.
In so far as worrying about the sterile hospital environment - kilts and skirts drag in a great deal
less adverse elements than the ground raking pants (cuffs). In some cases you would not be permitted
into an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) wearing street clothes but for ordinary hospital visits no big deal.
I have made many hospital visits wearing kilts and skirted kilts a great number of times to see friends;
relatives co-workers and with much fan fare raised the level of interesting talk about unbifurcated clothes
and the comfort of wearing same.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: Wearing pants at the hospital
I sympathise with your situation and hope that the treatment works out - it is a long and hard road.
I know. I'm on it. I haven't mentioned it in any of my previous posts, but this seems like the right time. It was being being diagnosed in June this year with primary thyroid cancer and secondary metastatic lymph and lung cancer that made my mind up to go fully public with my skirting. No time to lose! Enjoy life.
I have been undergoing radiotherapy treatments everyday for the last four weeks - two to go - and every day I have worn a skirt or a kilt to the hospital (since I don't wear trousers any more). When I went for my radio-iodine treatment I wore a dress as an inpatient - I checked with the sister beforehand and she said wear whatever makes you feel comfortable - so I did. I had to go for a gamma scan as an outpatient and wore a dress, no problems at all. All the staff are fantastic and accept me as I am. I get a few looks from people in the waiting room, but I don't really care what they think.
So if you enjoy wearing skirts and kilts, and your wife is ok with it, then a hospital is a very safe place to be. The staff are very open minded and have seen it all before. I saw my consultant today while I was wearing a black denim pencil skirt and black tights. Absolutely no problem.
So there - my story is out.
I am so glad to her that your wife has a a good prognosis, my best wishes for you both.

Sorry to hear about the cancer, but it's good that she has a good prognosis. I wish her well. I share the other's curiosity about your not wearing skirts, but I also can understand that in sensitive times... we all have our reasons for doing, or not doing certain things.rick401r wrote:My wife was admitted to the hospital last week and diagnosed with a brain tumor. I hate to hear this, I hope you too can make a full recovery, and I also share your view that, if I were in your same, or a similar situation, I would wear what I want. I'd say that's your prerogative if there ever was one. In fact, I've always said that I wouldn't wear skirts around my parents, but if I were the patient in a serious cancer case, then they'd just have to get over it.jeffreyrichards2015 wrote:I know. But the fact is, illnesses aside, tomorrow isn't promised to anyone, so by all means, live like today is the last day!
As far as hospitals go, I don't look forward to my first admission, but I will say, that I will show up in my favorite skirt. Doesn't matter, they are going to put me in one of those gown anyway where you can see your backside, but I'd walk in the front door skirted, and hopefully (God willing) will WALK out the same front door with the same skirt on!

I'm very sorry about your condition and wish you the best, miraculous cure and all. Seriously.jeffreyrichards2015 wrote:...It was being being diagnosed in June this year with primary thyroid cancer and secondary metastatic lymph and lung cancer that made my mind up to go fully public with my skirting. But there's a real lesson here about being yourself and living for the moment. Whatever time any of us have left -- be it days or decades -- We should each be ourselves and have fun with it. To thine own self be true.

Yes, Jeffrey...hoping all medicine will be successful for you as well; you'll be in my prayers too. I have lost relatives and had some afflicted with cancer over these last years. But, yes, enjoy life, for it is always fleeting.

Re: Wearing pants at the hospital
First of all, thank you all for your well wishes for my wife and I. We are home now and the future looks so bright I may have to wear shades.
Of course you are all right concerning wearing skirts in the hospital. The primary reason for not being skirted was not to upset the wife who is against me being skirted in public. Her family were all present and they are very judgmental Baptists and I decided this was not the time to rock the boat.

Judgmental Baptists? Surely not! They should be forgiving, and leave the judging to God. At least, I think that's what my Sunday School teacher said, though I probably wasn't paying much attention.
Judge not, lest ye be judged, and all that.

Keep on skirting,

And I have no more regard for them than I do for muslims. Religious fundamentalism, be it Christian, muslim, or Jew, is the greatest evil that confronts humanity. Like our own, I am sure that tonight, God's eyes are filled with tears.

Re: Wearing pants at the hospital
As bold as I tend to be around strangers, I too tread lightly with family. In fact, to my knowledge, none of them even know. I suppose they could happen upon my flickr or something, but I probably wouldn't wear skirts when I am around them just because I don't feel like dealing with the drama. Mom is the only one who may or may not have a problem with it. I personally feel that she wouldn't approve, but wouldn't throw me under the bus either. Would probably not wear skirts in her house out of respect, but should they visit me... maybe.rick401r wrote:First of all, thank you all for your well wishes for my wife and I. Well then again.... my house my rules. They don't pay the rent here. Doesn't matter, in the two years I've lived here, Mom and her husband have only been by once, and that was just for five minutes.
The only visitors we ever get is Jehovah's Witnesses. (speaking of religion), haven't had a skirt encounter with them yet... I've always been at work when they showed up. Still, I'm not one to slam the door in someone's face. I'd let them in, and we can discuss religion if they want, but they won't convert me, and they will be told that upfront. I won't change into trousers either, nor will I hide my BOS, various Witches "Bibles", or other Occultic literature.
Once again, my house, my rules.
They will be politely offered tea, coffee, a sandwich, what have you.... It will NOT have cat tails or newt eyes either, for I am a good witch.

Re: Wearing pants at the hospital
I also have avoided wearing skirts when around the family, just in case they don't see things my way. I have gone kilted but not skirted. That plus the after effects of a dose of flu kept me from visiting at Christmas, I just didn't feel like socialising in trousers, or spending another Christmas in a house which is actually a manse, full of wall to wall carols. (My sister is a Methodist minister with a large flock of churches to look after).
I suppose I should go see the folks this year, but again I find myself looking for excuses not to. I do not like Christmas at all, but that's a rant for another thread, maybe!

I wish you both a speedy recovery and a long and healthy life ahead of you. Great strides are being made in the treatment of tumours and people survive for many years after successful treatment.
MOH was at work today and I had to attend a hearing test at my local Audiology clinic which I did wearing a skirt and there wasn't even a raised brow from the Technician. I haven't a problem attending hospital and dental appointments skirted.

I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.
