My first ever unbifurcated garment

Post by moonshadow »

Digging around through some old photo's and I find out that I was incorrect. The first time I wore an unbifurcated garment wasn't the Macabi of 2015, or the ritual robe of 2010....

Nope, it goes all the way back to, what looks like might be mid 1982?

Just had about a 30 year period of trouser tyranny!

As my mother will attest throughout my childhood, I absolutely DESPISED wearing pants and jeans! I do seem to vaguely remember crying and pitching a fit when my grandmother, and others (particularly on my fathers side) "broke" me from wearing my gowns. I remember Mom telling me a story a while back on how she would let me wear gowns all of the time, maybe up until I was around 5 or 6 when my father and his family put a stop to it. Yet for some reason, this photo makes me somewhat "proud".

Anyway.... submitted for your viewing pleasure, and a bit of nostalgia... a young, toddler Moon Shadow, aka a "New Moon".

Note the high chair that would no doubt be the subject of many-a-recalls if sold today. Never the less, I seemed to turn out okay.... Well maybe that depends on who you ask!

Well, Moon, clearly you were a child prodigy to recognize the intelligent option of unbifurcated clothing as such a tender age!
As a matter of fact, the sun DOES shine out of my ...

They say that our brains most critical point in development is during the first few years of our life, it is said that it will shape who were are hence forth....

.... well there ya go! A seed was planted. It only took 30 years to figure out "who I was".... er... actually that's still a work in progress, but I'm sure you catch my drift.. :P

I've actually done a little research here and there, and apparently, waaaay back in the day (before anyone here was born), it was not uncommon for young boys to wear gowns and dresses up until around 7 or 8 years of age, when they would go though a "breeching".

Interesting reading here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breeching_(boys)

After reading the article in detail, it seems to parallel ordeal that I went through at a similar age.... I must have been the last boy in the modern era to go through this horrendous experience, better known as wearing pants! Yeah... amazing how the memory neurons are firing on this one... I absolutely hated wearing pants! I do recall finding some relief around the 4th grade, when I started wearing jogging pants. That helped. Then I moved in with my dad at the age of 11. He put a stop to that. That was the end of comfort below the equator until just this last summer.

Dark times... dark times...

In 1953, when my parents had me baptized, it seems it was still the custom for a baptismal gown for boys.

Of course, the more ancient custom was naked baptism; it's a symbolic bath.
