A Rant in general

Post by Uncle Al »

Sorry - but I'm a bit upset, which caused this rant :!:

BEWARE :!:

Home Phone Service - -
I have Caller ID on my home phone. I received a call today at 11:17AM and
was unable to get to the phone in time to answer. My Caller ID showed
MY name and My phone number. How can I call myself from my home phone :?:
SPOOFING & SCAMMING

BEWARE - - On September 24, 2015 I had a call from 470-598-0000
claiming to be Microsoft Windows. I interrupted the caller, with an
Indian/Pakistani accent, by telling him he was a scammer & I've reported
him to the FTC. The turkey hung-up real quick! This was the 3rd call from
'windows' I've had in the past year. 1st call I told the idiot, 'What computer?
I don't have a computer.' He hung up. 2nd call I told the 'person' that I
don't have Windows on my computer as I use Linux. Again he hung up.
This time I wrote down the phone number and I'm spreading it around all of
my social media pages. Then I thought, the people at Skirt Cafe' need to
know this info too, at least the ones located in the U.S.

So, BEWARE of the phone number and if you get a call,
REPORT IT TO THE FCC, FTC AND YOUR PHONE COMPANY!
Senior citizens being preyed upon by scammers is a dastardly deed,
which needs to be punished :!:

These idiotic A$$es need to be put behind bars!

OK - You've been warned :!:

End of rant :)

Here in the Netherlands we had them too. it took me about four times to annoy them enough that the don't call me anymore.
I warned my family and friends and we had a good laugh about it. Last time I wanted to hold them on the line for a long time, just to waste their time.. I only got 15 minutes..

I agree, they are annoying and harmful for the weaker persons who are computer illiterates.

This has happened often in the UK too, the caller claims to be from Microsoft and claims they have detected a virus on your computer and ask you to install an app that allows them to access your computer and locate the virus (they need access to turn off any antivirus software you may already have)... once they have access they install a virus and the scammers then ask for payment for software to remove this (new) virus ... don't be fooled though, once they take your money (via credit/debit card) they hang up and the virus is left on your computer, your normal antivirus software is unable to run as the new virus disables it and therefore the only way to remove it is to wipe your hard drive and reinstall windows from scratch

Microsoft does not under any circumstances phone people about viruses, 1. because it would cost them a fortune and 2. because they don't care if you have a virus, it's your problem not theirs, which is why they reccommend that you install AV software in the first place

if you get one of these calls simply hang up, do not follow any instructions and do not part with your hard earned cash

I would hold them on the line and screw with them all the way. Give them phony addresses, phony credit card numbers, etc.

My pet peeve right now is Sirius. OMG They are RELENTLESS! They call EVERY DAY!
