Kilts across Europe
Kilts across Europe
Just to show the interest in kilts is as strong and widespread as ever.
Rettl 1868, an Austrian firm use tartan cloth in many of their creations, and make and encourage the use of kilts for men with various (publicity) stunts down in Styria/Steiermark.
No, I was not present. The pic is from Facebook.

One of my nephews lives in Vöcklabruck in Austria and owns a kilt. Not to please his Dutch uncle I guess...

Re: Kilts across Europe
Earlier on today after my 8AM row I went in to Dublin City to do a little shopping. On parking my car on the quays I was almost immediately confronted by a group of lads all wearing kilts of various tartans. It just dawned on me then that today Dublin is host to Scotland for a 'friendly' (Oxymoron!) rugby international at the Aviva Stadium.
Later on in a main shopping street area I saw several more. It's a grand sight, I would declare and I was only sorry I didn't have anything with me to compete with them.

Re: Kilts across Europe
The other day I was looking at tartans in France, I was surprised that not only major parts of Normandy and Bretange have their own tartan, but also in the centre of France and near the Elzas also.

There are indeed a lot of French fans of tartan, kilts, bagpipes, whisky, caber-tossing and everything celtic.
If you use Facebook, you may have come across the Kilt Society of France <https://www.facebook.com/groups/14738520502/?fref=ts>
or their own website :

There are also several Scottish country dance groups up and down the country, where all the men wear the kilt, of course.
I find it amazing how popular things Scottish can be around the world, and not only in former colonies.

Re: Kilts across Europe
There was no shortage of kilts on display in Dublin for the Six nations' Rugby round-up last Saturday.
