kilts for women

Post by johnie »

Hi Lads. Beware.Women are now trying to get men out of kilts. I was watching BBC news tonight 17july, when an item came on. Now the station was having trouble, with the sound and picture breaking up, but the story was about "naughty women now leaving pants behind, and buying mens kilts" This is to stop men wearing them. IT IS OBVIOUS. They want akirts and kilts-- clothing hanging loose from the waist TO BE WOMENS WEAR. WE WILL HAVE NOTHING EXCEPT PANTS. THIS HAS TO BE STOPPED. John in Gretna

Agreed. I've had a couple of women admire my denim kilt and asked where I got it from. On the other hand, women wear jeans but men haven't given them up - yet :?

OK Charles. I agree, a lot of women have said I look smart etc in my kilts, normally a blak one from the lads in manchester UK,
I will not stop wearing a kilt. However, women wore mens pants when they first started wearing pants, altered mens to fit, my wife did the same, and look where they are now. No one thought it would catch on: just a femmine thing-they will grow out of it. then looked what happened!!

LOL!! I really doubt that any man inclined to wear skirts or kilts to begin with will be so easily dissuaded by women taking them as fashion. It certainly doesn't offend me, and I look forward to sharing even more fashion choices with the fairer sex. Anything that gets women out of jeans and back in skirts and dresses is okay with me.
As a matter of fact, the sun DOES shine out of my ...

Well...I had no problems going to the VAMC this afternoon to get something looked at and collect some antibiotics...in that I chose to wear a lightweight, pleated black knee-length skirt instead of my kilt. Even pleated - not nearly to the extent a kilt is - it is much more controllable in wind and sitting, etc. Also a good choice because instead of taking something off, I just had to raise the skirt and was mostly there.

Since I don't care about skirts, if the ladies start wearing kilts - no difference. Though I might ask about their ability to wield a claymore, etc.

Many women say a man can't wear skirts because they don't have the legs for it. I'd say many women can't wear a kilt because they don't have the legs for one.

Since I started wearing skirts to work, there seems to have been an explosion of skirt/dress/short shorts at work. Even some of the men have worn a kilt, and many have taken it a cue to wear some spectacular shorts!

I have absolutely no objection to the ladies wearing skirts, I love skirts and the way they flatter legs, why do you think I wear them? I work with many women and girls ( more than a few are in late teens ) who have very trim figures and fairly well defined muscles, it would be wrong for me to try to deny them the option to show those legs off to best affect. ( and I would be told where to go in no uncertain manner if I tried )

I may be putting more importance on my own clothing as a driver for this, but I do feel this Summer there are many more different styles and hemlines on display, and the fairly marked change seemed to happen after i started.

OK, I may have gone off too quick, but when I saw that news story on the TV, it brought back memories of when women first started to wear pants. In those days there was no internet, but the movement for women to wear pants caught on fast. Since noone was making pants for women, they bought mens and altered them to fit. A few years ago, the BBC put 2 men in skirts and asked them to walk around London. They stopped and asked women what they thought of men in the skirts. A lot said they looked ok, and also said so long as it is not my man! Fashion killed. Now the weather in the UK has been very warm of late, and some women started to wear skirts and dresses to cool down in, but these women in the news were out to buy and wear mens kilts: they are no cooler than their own skirts etc. So I am just wondering why mens kilts thats all. There has to be a reason for it. For a while now it has been posted sometimes on the forum, that the best way to get skirts on men accepted, was to start by men wearing kilts, then the transtion into skirts would be easier. I have posted to that myself. But it is also posted by some men-and I addept their view- they will not wear anything known as womens wear. IT JUST GOT ME THINKING why now are some women wanting to wear mens kilts. I may be wrong but................!

As we all preach, wear what you like. That should apply to both men and women.
A side note, I bought a women's kilt once. It closed on the left side and it's length was about mid calf length. I had it shortened to 24 inches and wear it regularly.

What you bought was a kilted skirt. Women's kilts are the same as men's except with a bit more shaping of the aprons and the pleat fell to fit the female figure. The Art of Kilt Making book actually uses female dimensions in a lot of the examples as the shaping is trickier than for a man's kilt, and every other aspect of the construction is the same.

Robinz. Had good laugh at that one, called my wife to have look!! When I ordered a kilt many years ago, from a family firm in the highlands, who have made kilts for 100 yrs, I placed an order for a one for my wife. When it arrived, the wife tried hers on, and it was a perfect fit. Great. Snag was it closed onto the right as mine did. I phoned the firm and said a mistake had been made, it closed the wrong way. I was told there is no such kilt as a womens, and since I asked for a kilt for my wife, they supplied a kilt. woops!! As you said.

Liam Neeson as Rob Roy, and a fine cut of a lad he was/is, too. Ladies' kilts that buckle on the left are 'kilted skirts'.

That is a funny story, where are you from? I'm from Inverness, and my kilt was given to me in the family tartan for my 21st birthday many years ago....(its had a few adjustments since then let me tell you). As a Scotsman, i can tell you that referring to a kilt as a skirt isnt well recieved in these parts of the world

Lots of pipe band lassies already wear "proper" kilts which close to the gents' side.
Makers of formal kilts only produce them to that pattern.
Some informal kilts or kilted skirts close to the other side.
With modern denim kilts and Utilikilt styles the closure side is less noticeable anyway.
