Keyboard problem

Post by Sinned »

Overnight I have had some shift-key combinations cease to work - shut the machine down and started it up and they combinations failed. Both shift keys are affected. The driver is up to date and the system says that everything is working properly. I run Windoze 7 on a Compaq Presario. The shift combinations are 1 to 4, 8 to 0, z, x, c, v, m, ,, . and /. control-key combinations seem to work and I haven't tried all the Alt-key combinations. Apart from a faulty keyboard anybody any ideas for me to try? I use the on-screen keyboard for the non-functioning combinations at the moment. Interstingly, when I press the shift key down the shift key on the on-screen keyboard lights up but nothing happens when I press the other key.

I had similar problems recently. Some keys just wouldn't work, and some would act as if CTR was pressed. The next day it worked fine. I thought it might be the high humidity we were having. But then it acted up again with different keys, so I reverted to an old keyboard for now.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me, I'd lend you one of my spares but you are rather a long way off! you can probably get one for a fiver to check things out!

could be B and B but it's a bit of an inconvenience. maybe a USB mini-keyboard is needed although I'm using the on-screen one when necessary. Oh, well.
