At last I went out in public

Post by hairy »

Some of you will know of my recent skirting problems and the last one trying to go out in public, Well at last today I've finally done it. I was first going to enter a garden center today but again put my jeans on in the car, then felt annoyed with myself for failing to be myself. Then we went to a town shopping center, got out of the car but quickly got in and on went the jeans, and I just can't explain why I kept giving in. Well on route home we pulled into a wooded picnic park, I'd never been there before and didn't know what to expect. In the car park were lots of cars which almost put me off again, but I actually went for it. Wearing a black T shirt and above the knee black mini skirt I walked with wife past families and dog walkers in this very nice wooded setting. I stroked a dog, said hello to strangers and felt totally relaxed. My wife said it was the most relaxed I'd been for a long while. I did feel aware that there were a few side looks, but it was really no problem, at last I've done it. My daughter has told her house mates at uni about dad wearing a skirt, clearly she wanted to tell them and that was no big deal. The past months have been difficult for me but I feel I'm over the worse, I certainly feel good about having done it today, and left my legs on show too. It looks like I'm setting myself up for a nice skirting summer, and If I can do it anyone can.

Congratulations. The first time is the hardest for sure. Soon you'll wonder what you were afraid of.

Yes, congratulations for sure! At it's true: wearing a skirt only gets easier with time.

Some people will notice you, and some of those will be surprised, and you'll get a range of reactions from that. But in the vast, vast majority of cases people just quickly think, "Oh well," and then go about their business.

You have the right to wear whatever you want. Just do it in confidence and never cringe.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Congratulaion as well from me! 8) That first time is always the most difficult. :D Confidence will grow until it is almost second nature. When you look back on that first time, and you realise that so little actually happened, you will wonder what the problem was! (Answer - it was all in your head!)

Always remember that with your family on board with you - and them being fine with it - is a HUGE starter for 10. 8) :D :thumright: :thumright:

Remember too that most folk aren't bothered with it at all. Just the occasional second glance is the most you might get - and what's wrong with that! You are the one who is comfortable! 8)

The first time for me was a non-event - except in my head - before I ventured out of the car in a denim miniskirt. Now I get compliments from complete strangers! 8)

I don't think I ever was afraid, that's what makes it difficult to understand. I think perhaps its because its something different in society which makes it all the more important to change that. We ALL need to be seen out and about to make it the norm.
Something always told me that I'd be fine when the day came, and so I was. I found it relaxing and uplifting just to be me rather than exciting. I'd been out before on my motorbike, but not where I'd be seen as such.
One thing I am aware of is that because it was a family area it prob would not have excepted had I been alone, but ANY bloke alone there would have looked out of place, I feel that a little unfair on all blokes.
Thanks for all your support.

I'm not afraid of how I look...I'm just afraid my skirt will fall off while I'm walking in it...have to get it elasticized first.

jorgovan just reminded me I was a little concerned as it was a windy day and my skirt was a light weight one. Now I know how girls must often feel.

Good for you, hairy. The first time is always the hardest. It often gets easier from there.

Well done and good for you. Making the first step out in public in clothing that society makes you different is hard but now you have done it it does get easier. I started wearing clothing that society deems as womens wear in 2011 and now go anywhere including Doctors, dentists hospitals etc.

Keep up the good work now you have started. You have a supporting wife and daughter. I don't have children but do have a supporting wife.

Many, many out in the big world will not be bothered with what you wear. A small minority will give a brief stare but I find they stop as soon as you look back at them. Only a small handful will make negative gestures like laughing. These are the hardest not to let you knock your confidence but ignore them. 99.9% of this minority from my experience are women who embrace their modern dress code. You are doing nothing illegal or immoral. You have as much right as freedom of choice and expression as the next person.

Well done and keep up the good work. You will find good support on this forum.

Well done! My first time, I was shaking in my shoes. But it gets easier, and now I think nothing about it at all. You'll get there too, if you persevere.
Keep on skirting,

At last I've been out and about again. Unfortunately I can only be out in a skirt when I'm with the wife because I'm a biker so she drives the car and we don't get a lot of chances to go out and walk about. I did get a bit uptight when I was about to leave the car and Mr Macho man pulled up beside us in his macho car, with macho dog and Macho family, but I soon got over it. After a bit of walking I became more relaxed than when I was in the car. I don't like returning home as I still put jeans on once I get in our road to go from car to house, that's the down part. I don't want neighbours to know as I don't like or trust any of them. I'd like the chance to be out and about, relaxed a lot more.

I should have said how I found the need to climb over a country gate a bit complicated, and there was a slight breeze too so walking and holding the skirt down did become a little difficult.
