I do not shave the same situation as Louis XIV, at 6' 2" already, any significant heels on my shoes are going to have me clashing with the tops of doorways.

That's a problem I'd certainly have with any sort of heel above about 2" or so -- and there are already places where I frequent that I need to watch my head anyway!

My main issues, though, are stability (I'm more than a bit of a clutz) and availability (I have large feet). I need stability to feel confident, and the only heeled shoes other than cowboy boots (and I don't like anything that covers my ankles) tend to be for women and are unbelievably dowdy or ugly once the size gets up over about 11 (and I need a 13 1/2 in that size band).

Oh, well.

For me, I don't qualify for these types of shoes.
My feet resemble a couple of Navy aircraft carriers.
I probably have room to store a couple of A-10's
along with several F-18's on each foot ;)

I am on the lookout for a pair of knee high boots to wear with skirts on colder days. perversely, it's easier to find ridiculous heel height boots, rather than the 1 3/4" heels or less that I want. Anybody know of a location that sells David Tate Della boots, size 13 wide, at a good price, that will ship to Canada?

Like Uncle Al, my footwear needs to have serious floatation built into the design. Canal barges come to mind, but alas, they don't allow me walk on water...

With regards to Uncle Al's picture of King Louis XIV:

Maybe that's the look we all need to aspire to.

Photoshopped or not, I always think that sort of look ain't quite right. Coat completely covering the short skirt, so all the onlooker sees is bulky winter coat and a pair of boots joined up by very little. Makes me think the person got dressed in a hurry and forgot to put a skirt on! You could say the same of the woman - her coat is longer than her skirt too - but at knee length it seems OK.

Even if the skirt is long enough to stick out below the coat, the padded top half and winter boots with a long length of leg only covered by tights, it just seems unbalanced to me.
Keep on skirting,

Oh, the sacrifices one makes for art. Or fashion. Or to show off one's legs. Or to shock and hopefully awe.

Or perhaps to assert one's independence.

And actually, although I'm not into men that way, I think the missing-pants look is kind of sexy.

You really don't know that he is skirted. Could be short-shorts. Could be neither.

Takes some cajones to say that, but I have to agree with you.
