R.I.P. Sir Terry Pratchett, the man that inspired my user name and writer of some of the best fantasy novels ever written.

Creator of a flat world supported by 4 elephants riding on the back of a turtle travelling across the skies.

The creator of a parallel world that took a serious look at our world and twisted it with characters and personalities that you could associate with from the devious leaders of the city to the is it human is it troll is it dwarf is it zombie nope it's Nobby of the watch....

The Discworld, and some of his other novels, have given me a phenomical amount of laughter over a lot of years, so sad to see that Terry has gone. He has left one hell of a legacy with his literature and isn't going to be forgotten!
By the way, a few years ago I looked at a childrens encyclopedia from the sixties, well pre-Pratchett. It was one of the books I was given when I was a child and weighed less than a small moon, in it there was a picture and an article about an Asian (I think) creation myth, which had a turtle, four elephants and the world on it's back. So the concept isn't Terry's, however the amazing world on the disc reqally was his creation. Oh, he must have been very well read, his "Thingness detector" used by the wizards was also rooted in fact, an early earthquake detector was the inspiration for that one. He didn't know it, but he also named my first cat! Greebo was the name that won, but Greebo was almost called Wuffles, after another Pratchett beast!

The Good die young, they say, which in Pratchett's case is nothing short of tragic for creative fantasy literature.

Apparently he had gotten hold of a metal genuine meteorite, smelted it down & forged the metal into the sword with which the Queen knighted him! How about THAT for inventiveness!

If that's true it's brilliant! I wonder where that sword went? still with Queenie or with Terry's family I hope!
