A year or so ago, I received a compliment from a woman I hadn't seen for five or six years, "You're looking very trendy!" and had a huge smile. :D 8) I was wearing my beige UK at the time. I thanked her and we chatted about how they were since I had last seen her - ie normal conversation.

I have said before on this site, I had another lovely comment whilst on a charity walk for Breast Cancer when one of the food/drink stations helpers commented, "Wow! Man in a skirt! Cool!!" I was wearing a 14" long denim mini-skirt at the time. That was a wonderful feeling!

On a second occasion during the same charity walk a year later, one woman commented that "I had better legs then her for a skirt" (I had on the same denim mini-skirt at the time and my legs were unshaved)

All of these incidents certainly put a spring in my step.

I received an identical comment while participating in a breast cancer walk. I was wearing a black utilikilt and, of course, a pink shirt. I also got the same response about my legs when in a walk for violence against women called Walk A Mile In Her Shoes. I was wearing my Black Watch kilt and high heels.

I had a similar comment from my Dentist ( "If I had legs as good as yours then I would wear a skirt more often." ) when I was last in there. I had a knee length denim skirt on at the time and it was the first time she had seen me in a skirt although I warned her the time before that I would be wearing a skirt. I'll have a skirt on the next time I see her as well - planning a black one finishing ( or starting ) well above the knee.

Over the last 3 years of going out and about skirted I have had many compliments on my skirt wearing attire, saying I look lovely, cool and many other such compliments. My wife has actually mentioned that I get more than she does and that includes from me!

On one occasion I even got a 10% discount on a purchase amounting to over £300 from a female member of staff with the message "that's because I admire your outfit and the stand you make".

I don't get compliments regularly but then out and about I don't see others complimenting others on a regular basis. As my wife says, these days they all seem to be competing with each so complimenting another doesn't work!

I'm still waiting for my first compliment of 2015!

Four here, three from older women and one from a guy in his 20's.

I can recall at least one semi-compliment in the last years. I was wearing a long silk broomstick skirt on an rare warmish SF Saturday to go for a pedicure. Like usual here in summer, it was breezy and the light skirt was a handful to manage. But a woman at the salon said "You look cool in that skirt" (referring more to temperature than the '60s definition of cool :) ). She saw me again on another visit and asked "No skirt?"

The downside of this long skirt for a pedicure is I succeeded in dunking the hem in the foot bath. Now I just wear a shorter skirt when it is warm enough to wear a skirt at all.

Last night I was out at a curling after-match dinner. One of my own club members commented on the traditional plaid kilt I was wearing, that I "scrubbed up nice!"

He had seen me in a kilt before as had most other members of both teams - no-one made any other comment except one of the opposing team asked if the tartan was my own named one to which I replied "Yes!

My favorite compliment came from an older gentleman working in the men's wear department of Nordstrom's. I was wearing a Colorado tartan kilt, off white denim shirt, brown leather vest, and 6" top hiking boots with red laces & socks scrunched down. He was impressed with the combination. I'm sure it was a contrast with the suburban style sweats and T-shirt normally seen in the mall.

Two more yesterday, from a couple in their 30's at Starbucks.

She said she liked my kilt, than asked me what clan it was from. I told her it was a utility kilt, then she said she'd been to a St. Andrew's festival in Washington D. C. and liked all the kilts there. The guy then said that he also liked my look.

The she asked me why I was wearing it, and I told her that one great thing about being an old man is that you get to be a crazy old man, then she said why wait until you're old because she certainly doesn't.

It was all over in 10-15 seconds but still some nice positive reinforcement.

I have it in mind than when an accompanied women says she likes my kilt, I'll look at the guy, indicate the woman with my thumb, raise an eyebrow, smile, and then suggest to him, "There you go, eh?"

Maybe next time.

I just remembered that on the last St. Patrick's Day, I was headed to the pub when a young girl burst out of a restaurant across the street from me and shouted "I love your skirt." I was wearing my favorite, a Black Watch from Stillwater Kilts.

On a hike with my club today, a woman asked if my wife had bought me any new kilts for Christmas. I answered that she hadn't, and then woman who'd asked responded, "Why not?"

The closest to compliments I have had was one couple who took an interest in a plaid Woolrich skirt I was wearing, though confusing it for a kilt, despite the absence of pleats, its short (mini) length, and my wearing it with black tights.

Another time a lady taking admission tickets for an event in Thalian Hall observed my full-length tan corduroy skirt, on a chilly winter evening, and said "Oooh...I need your skirt. That looks warm."

Otherwise no one ever mentions the skirts. A function of polite southerners who are confused enough not to know quite what to say, I suppose. Or perhaps I don't look as good as I fancy myself, and they are just sparing my feelings!

I have been wearing my Skirtcraft skirt to work every day this week so far. Difference today is that I met my sister for lunch. She has seen me in a tartan kilt and a black UK before.

But never in a skirt - until now! I wore it with black tights which shs has never seen me wearing before either.

Her only comment was that "I looked lovely" :D and "Great stuff" 8) then we got on with catching up with our news.

No comments on the tights at all - I always suspected she would be OK with skirts (but you never know). It did feel good getting the thumbs up though! :thumright: :D 8)

Congratulations on your progress!

In general, though, tights seem to be a non-issue. Lots of guys wear tights: runners, bicyclists, acrobats, dancers, Batman, Robin Hood, Peter Pan... People are already used to seeing them.

Excellent, ST!

I was away on a drinking social occasion with some friends a couple of weekends ago. They had seen me in long skirts before, but I haven't been wearing long skirts much lately, so this time I turned up in a knee length cord skirt and black tights. The skirt drew no comments, but one of the guys was incredulous about my tights, asking if I was wearing stockings. No "You look lovely" for me.
Keep on skirting,

Alastair
