Bad knees and consequences thereof

Post by Big and Bashful »

Most of the time I wear ankle length skirts, so modesty isn't a problem, I just need to mind how the skirt can get under feet etc. Today I am wearing a knee length skirt as I am moving much stuff around. However I am glad there isn't an audience. When it comes to picking things off the floor, due to dodgy knees I tend to bend over at the waist because if I bend my knees too much I end up in pain and struggling to get back up. I realised that this could put on a bit of a show for anyone behind me, not good, not good at all!

So, given bad knees and an inability to kneel or bend much at the knee, how do you pick stuff up, including heavy boxes, while not frightening passers by?

Incidentaly, whe I used to be a trainer, I was trained in manual handling and assessment, the "back straight and bend at the knee" technique is a misinterpretation of an article and is not the best technique, placing too much strain on the knees and knee muscles, my lifting technique is close to the technique which was taught and demonstrated to be far better, eqasier on the knees but not while skirted!

I always thought that the "straight back/knees bent lift" meant that it was the thigh muscles which took the strain?
Looking back to the days when I did such things and often sharing a lift with a female who would have been in skirts. I think she would have parted her legs to a minimum and used the article itself as a "cover". I am talking about items of furniture and the girls were excluded from the worst lifting. I don't recall any incidents of exposure.
We always had one exception, the girls who did the displays and had to climb ladders were always allowed trousers in my time.
You've given me food for thought because I've got one dodgy knee which I've always put down to a childhood injury, perhaps I'm wrong.
Steve.

This shows the technique I learnt, much easier on the body and it gives you more power to lift with:
