MOH doesn't have much of an appreciation for classical music but I do and so watch The Proms on BBC2 whenever I can but I always try and watch The Last Night whatever I'm doing. It was heartening to see Hyde Park so full and joining in the festivities. MOH did make the comment that it must be hard to get tickets for The Proms and I said that the last night probably so but other nights not so difficult. She was amazed when I told her that The Proms lasts for about 8 weeks, from mid-July to mid-September. A classic example of what being British is all about - over 100 years of good music instituted by a musician of renown - Sir Henry
Hall Wood. I thought that the main conductor Sakari Oramo was a delight with his sense of humour and bright smile. He made watching the programme worthwhile without the music! And the traditional renditions at the end of Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem always finish off The Proms in such stately fashion. Than goodness for tradition. Hip, hip, hooray ( 3 times ).
Maybe some of yous from other parts of the globe appreciate our nationalist feelings just as much as I would appreciate yours. Being proud of one's nation perhaps isn't in vogue as much as it should be but we should each say, "I am proud to be ___________" { insert as appropriate }.
Here's a link to a Grundiad article about The Proms even though there are bits in it that I would disagree with:

I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.
