My long skirt adventure

Post by andrew72 »

Hello, well, its been a while since I posted a topic.
This afternoon, I am really buzzing from my long skirt adventure. Well, not so much an adventure, as I was wearing my long skirts out and about in my backyard.
It was a learning curve for me really because, one day, someday, I aim to spend longer periods of time in them.
1. Walking down the stairs: no problems there.
2. Stepping outside the back door: I was wearing skirts that were very long so had to lift the hem up to clear the step.
3. Walking outside: Yes, I was in the confines of my back yard yet it felt like freedom. I chose to walk barefoot and, when the breeze blew, I could feel the skirt billow and then waft round my legs.
4. Climbing stairs: Naturally, due to the length of my skirts, I had to lift the hem clear of the risers.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Well done ndrw,

That's how most of us started. Baby steps building up confidence in your skirting. Have you the support of your significant other and family? If you have then most of your difficulties are over. If not, then they have just begun! 8)
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Indeed.

I started out with a 17" mini rather than a long skirt and only discovered the joy of long ones later in the adventure. The sensation of the garment being separate from you is a remarkable one, and quite unlike trousers; it's not as strong with short skirts as it is with long ones -- sometimes it can seem like very long ones have a mind of their own and tend to go where they wish rather than following you.

Support from those around you is very important indeed. I count myself blessed that I have the full support of my spouse in this regard. I honestly don't know if I'd have the strength otherwise.

Thank you for your kind responses to my post. To be fair, I don't have the support of a significant other, though that would be nice, so just taking things one step at a time.

Like Crl I started out with mini skirts ( MOH says that I have nice legs ) and am now learning to appreciate knee length skirts. I have one or two calf length skirts and haven't gelled with them yet but I have a couple of ankle biters ( tiered witch type skirts ) which I like but will save them for winter with a slip underneath and thick tights. MOH says that I look like a tranny in them though so I don't know what to think.

I started with long corduroy and denim skirts, then moved to shorter skirts, though now I wear a variety of lengths. My favorite long skirts are ruched, or have adjustable drawstring down the length to give a ruched look to one or both sides. I also have a two layer "middi-maxi" skirt with the longer outer longer layer of a sheer see-through nylon, revealing some calf and ankle through the fabric.

BTW, I am pretty sure I now have as many skirts as I do pants and shorts.

I have a long skirt that I wrap around me on cold winter evenings at home. But for walking anywhere, no thank you. For me, it is knee length or a a little shorter, to enjoy the free feeling of having nothing clinging to my legs.
We are all different.
As for baby steps, no, I think I just jumped in the dep end, but it took nearly ten years to forget just how deep it was.

Congratulations. as I am wearing long dresses and maxi skirts every day, you will get used with the hem and when you are going out, the feeling of total freedom is amazing. Good luck skirting

I prefer longer skirts, they just feel more comfortable to me. Even when I'm hiking (especially when I'm off-trail) I find skirts below the knee to be most practical and comfortable.

My hiking skirt is a bottom the knee cargo skirt (pictures in the pics & looks area). I'm mostly an on trail hiker. The last time I ventured off trail I didn't pay enough attention to the grassy area I was walking through and ended up with a case of poison oak on one ankle.

Great gear, ND, much in the 'Jack Williams' mode, but he used to smile at us in his pics. Small criticism. I expect your dry hot climate down by the Limpopo favours those flowy long dresses.

oh yes, the climate at the Limpopo Region is perfect for wearing dresses. I will improve the smiling when I take pictures.

Would that be the "great gray-green greasy Limpopo" of Kipling fame?
