Would be nice if you could get a copy in English, but each article is summed up in English at the end which gets the story across.

.....But B&B wouldn't notice that. He's Scots, you see and they're going off at a tangent soon, or so they say. Anyway, he's off doing some serious sailing & concert going at the mo.

I am given to understand that their "National Security Alert System" has but two levels: "Mildly peeved" and "Let's get the bastards!". I suspect it's a reason that nobody really bothers them.Kirbstone wrote:.....But B&B wouldn't notice that. He's Scots, you see and they're going off at a tangent soon, or so they say.
I hope he's having a cracking good time!Anyway, he's off doing some serious sailing & concert going at the mo.
I start this year's sailing adventure this coming Friday. (Which reminds me, I need to get packing and find my sighting-compass.)

Hi Honey, I'm home! and have started growing some new skin, I looked like "The Singing Detective" if that was the right name for the series. The Sun got me big time while sailing. Great little break away, great concerts, nothing more adventurous worn than a knee length cargo skirt (or the long one for a day in Rothesay).crfriend wrote:I am given to understand that their "National Security Alert System" has but two levels: "Mildly peeved" and "Let's get the bastards!". I might live in Scotlandshire, but I am afraid I am as English as they come (Made in Liverpool).
I love the summary of the National Security Alert System, perfect!

Ah, B&B,
I thought they could only build & launch ships of your gross tonnage on the Clyde. Now I know you're a Sasannach from Liverpoolshire I expect you can decipher the Fronglais in those articles all right.
Glad you had a successful sail and concert-going. Yes, the Sun did roast us all a bit. It's still at it here and last night I sat out at a friend's BBQ until after 11PM in shirtsleeves & shorts (Wifey present, so no Mug.) Lunchtime today & it's an extremely pleasant 26 Centipede with some (welcome) cloud.
Yesterday I had to attend a meeting in Dublin and chose to park & ride the 'Luas' tram system into Town. They don't have air-con and we all swealtered. It was about 28-9 deg.
Tom.

It's too hot for me just now, I am now hiding from the Sun while I grow some new skin! My office, with the windows wide open, was 28 degrees centipede today and the Sun was so bright I just couldn't see the computer screens. I am so glad that I have access to an air conditioned control room with a computer now, it is bliss! I would love just a bit of cloud cover so that I could have a BBQ without spontaneously combusting!
Still, mustn't grumble! it looks like this is our one good Summer in 11! It really is beautiful, and timed perfectly for the Games as well!

Smiling as I imagine you pasty Celts toasted red as lobsters. I know it's painful, but there is a product called SUNSCREEN, and, hey, it works! I have the advantage, or disadvantage, of working outdoors every month of the year, and here in the sunny south, we have at least a little shirtsleeve weather every month of the year. I stay at least "farmer-tanned" year-around.

BTW, I had an interesting time explaining to my Ethiopian hosts that, at this time of year, NC is hotter than Ethiopia. They, of course, are at 6000+ feet elevation, and where I worked was considered the lowlands. So, there is a distinct difference in being at 50 feet elevation and 6000 to 7000 feet, even in the sub-Saharan tropics. Our days at this time of year are typically around 93F, with Gulf Stream humidity. We can go over 100F at times. And it isnt a dry heat. It's like an old fashioned sandwich steamer.

Re: HEJ News #6
We have so little good weather that it seems wrong to rub clouds on just because the Suns come out!
However if things come to pass and I get a fortnight to sail, I will be taking my Factor 50 and maybe something for what's left of my lips, last weekend was the first time my lips have ever ended up well burned. It's supposed to turn cooler here after a weak front passes over, I won't complain!

Just returned from 2 weeks in Hurghada, Egypt in the high 30;s and low 40's and blue skies every day. Too hot for me at the end - I applied tanning oil and have got a nice tan even when sunbathing under shade! Bit haven't burned.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Re: HEJ News #6
Sunscreen ratings are strange. A SPF 35 is several times more protective than a 15, but a SPF 50 is barely stronger than 35. The conclusion I arrived upon is that there is little advantage to buying anything stronger than SPF 35.

The problem with Sailing or Skiing is that the UV comes at you from below off the water or the snow as well as from above. Being thin on top dictates that I wear a hat of some sort. Certainly factor 20 or above helps on the nose and lip salve for those, hoping to fend off cold sores, which affect me some time after serious exposure.
As to the rest of the body, my Neanderthal Primeval Forest covering, including my legs prevents burns to a large extent and I need serious prolonged grilling to do any damage there. Because I still row boats in shorts for sport year round the old legs are made of mahogany anyway.
