I couldn't agree more. It certainly takes major league balls for a man to wear a skirt in public, and not care what the world thinks. I mean, what's the big deal? It's just a piece of clothing, nothing more, nothing less. At the end of the day, it's better to lead than to follow.crfriend wrote:That pretty well sums it up, I think. It's actually more "macho" to have the stones to stick out from the herd then to merely blend in -- and that's where a lot of guys get it wrong. If you aren't brave enough to blaze your own trail then you'll always wind up following along -- where, like on a dog-sled team, if you're not in the lead the view is always pretty much the same.JeffB1959 wrote:If men eschew wearing skirts, it's more because of woefully misplaced machismo and the foolish stigma associated with clothing and sexual preference.
Why don’t more men wear skirts?

It makes me wonder if the act of enjoying what you wear is somehow supposed to be un-manly. Guess then that I am un-manly...

It certainly did at first, but that 's because I thought the world cared! As I realised how little they cared, it got easier. Now I go skirted so much that sometimes I nearly forget how unusual it is and that people are surprised by it.JeffB1959 wrote:It certainly takes major league balls for a man to wear a skirt in public, and not care what the world thinks.

Me too. I enjoy choosing the length, colour and shape of my skirt and (for half of the year) the tights to go with it. I even try to choose a shirt or sweater that goes with them, so the whole outfit looks good. I never did this in the bad old days when I was a mere trouserman. There is no enjoyment in selecting or wearing your jeans and the T-shirt from the top of the pile.dillon wrote:It makes me wonder if the act of enjoying what you wear is somehow supposed to be un-manly. I certainly wouldn't classify all guys who take care of their appearance unmanly.dillon wrote:It makes me wonder if the act of enjoying what you wear is somehow supposed to be un-manly. Guess then that I am un-manly...
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Your story sounds similar to mine and, I suspect most of the folks here. We imagine all sorts of horrors that would spring on us if we wore skirts in public, but when the world doesn't come to a screeching halt and the public basically ignores us, those fears subside. Then we wonder what the big deal was all about in the first place.skirtyscot wrote:It certainly did at first, but that 's because I thought the world cared! Re: Why don’t more men wear skirts?
I found this on the UK ebay site while I was looking at skirts. This has been mentioned in previous posts but it's the first time I have seen one for sale.

I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

A mate of mine wears sarongs at home and in the back garden. He would never dream of wearing a "skirt" though.Big and Bashful wrote:What fiend led me to Ebay? I've just been and gone and ordered two sarongs now! never had a sarong. However wot sarong with that? Sorry!
Lads on holiday in the Med seem quite happy to don a sarong too. I guess for them this is an acceptable context.
I continue to come across women wearing skirts and dresses over jeans/trousers. Worst of both worlds IMHO.Sinned wrote:I found this on the UK ebay site while I was looking at skirts. This has been mentioned in previous posts but it's the first time I have seen one for sale.

Perhaps sarongs will become popularized in a particular niche...as beach wear.
I would deem that to be progress.

In the last two weeks I received several compliments from ladies saying that I have a nice kilt and it looks good on me.

Re: Why don’t more men wear skirts?
By the way, the extra big luxury sarong fits well, but not with a walking pleat, there isn't enough fabric for that. The standard sized one, is no good for me, it will wrap like a towel but there isn't enough overlap. Humph! Still, they aren't expensive, I just wish the larger sized ones came with the prints that the standard sized ones have, I prefer the designs.
