Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Most of yesterday I wore a 14.5" (37 cm) khaki skirt - around the house, biking, and out fishing. (14.5" inches is about to the top of my knees) But I changed to shorts for church; there's a man there who would take offense at a skirt, which would make it harder for him to worship.

Perhaps, however, his god might tell him to, "Lighten up a bit." One never knows.Jim wrote:[... T]here's a man [at church] who would take offense at a skirt, which would make it harder for him to worship.

Remember, nobody in the Bible ever wore pants, and the Pope doesn't either.Jim wrote:Most of yesterday I wore a 14.5" (37 cm) khaki skirt - around the house, biking, and out fishing. 14 1/2 inches to the top of your knees? to me that sounds like you have quite short legs? On me 20" feels too short when siting down and when standing my 20" cargo skirt doesn't reach my knees. Then again I am a bit of a monster!

I'm in B&B's camp. I just measured it, and the distance from natural waist (where I place practically nothing, preferring stuff to ride atop my hips because it's more comfortable that way) is about 24 inches.Big and Bashful wrote:14 1/2 inches to the top of your knees? to me that sounds like you have quite short legs?

No I agree with Jm in that the purpose that we are there in the main church meeting is to worship our God and to recognise His involvement in the scheme of things. Thus it is not for us to tell the worshipper to lighten up and accept things. If my wearing a skirt means that it detracts from his concentrating on worship then I would rather not wear the skirt. I would wear it when he is able to accept it and if that's never then so be it. That's probably why I would never wear a skirt to church - I wouldn't want for me to become a centre of attention. I'm not saying that it would never happen but I'd have to start asking some questions first.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

With all respect, I believe I have been misread. My comment focused on the possibility that the Deity's voice would enter the chap's mind imploring him to, "Lighten up" -- not the appearance of an unconventionally-attired church-goer.Sinned wrote:No I agree with Jm in that the purpose that we are there in the main church meeting is to worship our God and to recognise His involvement in the scheme of things. That's a laudable position, up to a point. However, it is worth recalling that there are "religious" "justifications" for things like slavery and Apartheid. Are those valid? Should they have been challenged? Or should they have been acquiesced to?If my wearing a skirt means that it detracts from his concentrating on worship then I would rather not wear the skirt.
I'm not trying to be an SOB here, really, but from my experience, the voice one hears supposedly from God virtually always reinforces one's own notions. Is that voice truly that of God, or is it the voice of some little Eichmann deep within us?

Had to go to the grocery store for some milk. In Pennsylvania you can buy milk at a convenience store but it can cost more than a dollar more. While I'm getting the milk there is a lady with a young boy in one of those push around grocery toy carts. She happens to remark, correctly, about my digital camo kilt. I was stunned as I never expected anyone to identify it ! She went n to 'mention she had friends who played rugby who 'wore kilts. She went on to ask if I was a member' of the British Regiment? "No," I replied, "I just wear it because it's comfortable." To which she slightly raised her head and said "it certainly is."

Yes, I do. It makes the standard utility kilts seem too long for me. I missed hypothyroid dwarfism by a few inches as the condition was diagnosed in my early teens.Big and Bashful wrote:14 1/2 inches to the top of your knees? to me that sounds like you have quite short legs?

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Out with the wife and daughter to see the film Grand Budapest Hotel, really entertaining, enjoyed it a lot. Wore my recently acquired Carhartt Trail Skirt, light tan, with an off-black 17th Street Surf Shop tee shirt, logo and artwork in the style of Kelly Mouse Grateful Dead album covers, etc. Oboz toe-loop sandals. I recommend the film very highly.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
I went out to dinner at a Chinese buffet last night with my son (briefly home from college) and wife. When my wife mentioned my skirt in the car, my son said a comment about silly, which gave me an opportunity to talk about sexism against men--my son is into men's issues. No one seemed to notice at the restaurant or the grocery store. When we got home, the mom of a co-worker was nearby and said "cute skirt." I had her take our picture. The skirt is light weight cotton, 15" long, size 13 from a thrift store. I've never figured out these sizes; so many sizes seem to fit. (The shirt also has buttons on the left, so I guess I was cross-dressing!)

Everybody has a smile on and that is a good thing. And ,as parents, it is our job to embarrass our children.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Was out and about in my black knit Ponte (Lane Bryant) skirt and a light blue polo shirt, midnight black sheer support hose (I had been going without till my knee healed up a bit and the blister went down...the doc noted my legs were a bit swollen when he looked at it so I used paper tape over a sterile gauze pad which holds up better than the 'Band-Aids" do under the hose), and my usual black leather (Brooks) crosstrainers. Did some grocery shopping and will be picking up a lady friend at the airport in about an hour.
Yesterday I went to pick up a friend's mother and was wearing my RunningKilt (though I mostly walk).
PS: Last Sunday I was scurrying all over the stage and related areas adding extra microphones and adjusting several new vocalists, got to moving faster than my feet and my toe stubbed the carpet and I took off like Superman. Unfortunately, I don't know how to fly without an aircraft.
Caught myself in "push-up position" but my left knee caught a couple of good friction abrasions, not sure what caused the blister. Anyway, noticed it was warm and oozy so I went post-haste to the Doc for some antibiotics and he said to keep treating it as I had been. It's much better now.

A speedy recovery to you, Darryl. Stumbling can become a serious malady to men of our age.
I was out shopping skirted Friday night, in a black skirt by Daisy Fuentes, one that is made with a heavy layered lycra fabric so it supposedly acts as a shaper...though not too well by my observations. Still, it looks good and has the approximate length I like, even when worn with the waist high, as a woman would wear it.
Yesterday I walked on the beach in the morning in a newly acquired purple Prana "Bliss" skirt, Chacos, and a charcoal tee shirt. A nice combination, especially now that my legs are getting a bit tanned.
Today I went to the gym and have been trying to learn a bit about Ethiopian agriculture as I am contemplating doing a brief stint as an exchange teacher in small grain production via USAID and an affiliated NGO.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Interesting day. Was out and about in this skirt: http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/downloa ... &mode=view but with a white t-shirt with "Attitude Makes the Difference" on the front. Met a guy on Iroquois Meadow and we walked together for a ways. He was full of questions.
1. Was my skirt a kilt? No, even a cheap kilt would be about $150-200 but I can get a skirt for $30, $18 on sale. Until I lose another 55 pounds anyway. Anyway, it is lightweight and keeps things cool with no chafing. He imagined that that was the case.
2. What about the hosiery? Since 2007 my doctors have recommended light support hose to stimulate circulation.
We commiserated on our various 'old guy' medical issues for a ways until I had to break off and head for home. If he regularly walks the meadow I'll probably run into him again. Couldn't really tell if he was 'interested' or just interested, though if he shows up in a skirt or kilt....
