Easter break
This week travelled to the Otway Ranges in southwest Victoria, the forest is mainly Beech and has been around about 150 million years and receives 2000mm of rain annually on average. The forest also boasts the highest tree walk in the world, the walkway is on average 12m above the forest floor and the central tower 47m above the floor, below is a couple of pictures of Australia that is not desert.

Nice! 2m. of rainfall is even more than we get here, so no wonder your forest grows so lush. That last one is a mighty specimen. Is it a 'Californian' redwood, a sequoia?

Doubtful, even a Sequoia (a fast growing tree in it's youth) isn't likely to have gotten that large in the 160 or so years that California and Australia have been exchanging plants.Kirbstone wrote:Nice! 2m. of rainfall is even more than we get here, so no wonder your forest grows so lush. Australia is a very diverse continent, everything from rain forest to desert, mountains to flat lands. Much like South Africa.

In the State of Victoria you can go northeast to snow, northwest to desert, south to beaches and north to the large Murray River all within 6 to 8 hrs drive from the Capital Melbourne, many places to see. The forest walk is about 1 1/2 hrs. there is also a Zip Line, like a long Flying Fox which is about 2 hrs but the cost is $115, the walk was $25 entry fee.
