Re: Denim skirt wanted
What I've found about the "hip or waist" decision is that the ones for the waist are shaped more in at the top. Most of the ones with belt loops I have sit on the hips, but ones like Historical Emporium are obviously waist ones. One thing about skirts is that one can adust the height by having belt or cord the appropriate notch. Most of the ones I have contain elastic, although I like the hard waistband of my khaki and StyleJ ones.

Re: Denim skirt wanted
Most of my front-fastening skirts zip up left handed, and I've never had any problem with them. It seemed odd at first, but it didn't take long to get used to. I'm left handed, so I suppose I would find it easier, but I've never had any difficulty with right facing trouser zips. Zipping your fly up or down is such a simple action that I can't see why anyone should find it harder with one hand than the other.

Spot on, Caultron. But there are good reasons. Dancing in a busy club you get pretty hot, maybe hot enough that you can get to the next club before cooling right down. And if not, well women are willing to put up with that, to look good on a night out. Compare that with sitting in an office all day. Quite a common complaint is that office are heated or air conned to the right temperature for a person in a trouser suit and a tie.Caultron wrote:But perhaps what they're wiling to put up with while cruising and what they're willing to put up with while sitting in an office are two very different things.Sinned wrote:It's always puzzled me that I can travel through the centre of the city on a Saturday night and there's the girls going from club to club wearing very little and the snow drifting around and seeming very happy. Yet get the slightest drop in temperature normally and they're cuddling up and complaining of the cold. Am I missing something here?

Re: Denim skirt wanted
While I have no problem with the direction a zipper faces, I can understand other people having a degree of difficulty, as I realised some years ago, with deep regret, that I will never play a guitar, lute, banjo or any other instrument that has a fretted neck, due to a hereditary stiffness and lack of articulation in my wrist. My late Father had a desire to play the banjo in the late 20s, but gave the dream away for that reason. Lap guitars, Appalachian dulcimers and the like are not a problem here as the wrist does not have to bend to any great degree. Maybe it is a Karmic mark from being crucified in a previous life--we all know the nails went through the wrists and not the hands

Back on track?
Actually I really like that "Urban cowgirl" one, and might just get myself one of those:

All the SyleJ skirts are right-hand zipper I notice.

Denim skirt found!
Well, it appears that all I needed was patience. The clocks have just gone forward so I suppose it is Spring. Anyhoo, the shops are now stocking Summer clothing and I have managed to find two places that stock my desired skirt.
The first is marks and Spencer @ £25
http://www.marksandspencer.com/washed-l ... /p22272526
and the second is Peacocks @ £14
http://www.peacocks.co.uk/lds-skirt-den ... -blue.html
I bought both in size 14 ( checked instore with a tape measure before purchase). The M&S is definitely the better quality and fit but the Peacocks is acceptable and will probably be worn when there is a chance of damage occurring.
Thus my search is over and I'm a happy chappie!

When you can lift the hem of the skirt to urinate while standing up why fool around with the zipper?Sinned wrote:The zip opening is so short just to get over the hips and the tighter the fit the better women seem to like it! The waist to hip ratio is closer now than it was years ago. Also men need a longer zip for obvious reasons when standing at the urinal. Doh!

I believe there is an applicable theory of feminine charm at play here, and that is "Looking good is more important than feeling good."skirtyscot wrote:Spot on, Caultron. But there are good reasons. Re: Denim skirt wanted
At a folk festival, a worried-looking chap came up to me after I had just left the 'gents' and said "Look mate, I'm not trying to be funny or anything, but how do you manage when you're wearing a skirt? - after all, they don't have flies". I explained that I just lifted the front hem and he gave me one of those "Oh Sh*t! - why didn't I think of that?" looks.JohnH wrote:When you can lift the hem of the skirt to urinate while standing up why fool around with the zipper?Sinned wrote:The zip opening is so short just to get over the hips and the tighter the fit the better women seem to like it! I love reactions like that. It's just so obvious it escapes most folks until it gets pointed out.pelmut wrote:I explained that I just lifted the front hem and he gave me one of those "Oh Sh*t! - why didn't I think of that?" looks.
