Kirbstone's picture above points up the precise reason why nobody ever talks about Columbus' fourth ship. Everybody knows about the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria, but it was the Planaria that "found the edge" and went over.

Thanks for that one KS, I actually used to go to a dentist who had a picture of one going over the abyss, and the other three making panicky manoeuvres with one abandoning for lifeboats. it had the inscription "I told you so!" He had an Irish surname as I remember, but I can't quite recall it
