Thrift store find
Thrift store find
I just wanted to mention a nice find at the local thrift store. They had set up a display of Halloween outfits and there was a rack of black satiny clothes. I found a great floor length, fully lined skirt for $3.99! A perfect fit at a size 12. (yes, I tried it on at the store.) The wife found something too. A pair of satin pants.

Re: Thrift store find
Sounds good Rick. I bought three skirts lately at thrift shops (one of them at a shop run by my church) and I make them "pass" as kilts. They're not really kilts, but people that know me usually refer to them as kilts. I really need to buy a sporran to boost the image, a member here gave me that idea. I apologize, I've been meaning to post pictures here, but I keep on forgetting to have my friends take pictures of me (I'm not so good with the self-picture).

Re: Thrift store find
I have over 70 skirts, most if not all of them are from thrift stores. I love that I can get them for a couple of bucks, especially when there's a sale on. I have more skirts and dresses than my wife, daughter, mom, and sister have ever owned in their lives put together, and all of them from a thrift store of some kind.
Occasionally you can get something really neat, rare, or even valuable, if you know what to look for, like Burberry. New condition, especially with tags, can resell for hundreds. I recently found a strange lined skirt from FENN WRIGHT MANSON that's khaki, pleats in the back, snapped cargo pockets in front, and the front zipper from top to bottom that you can open up to make it expand. I have used it for hiking, it's almost like it was designed for it. I've looked on the net and can't find any reference, not even on the mfg. site. I'm hoping to run into a real Scottish kilt or even a Utilikilt. Not likely, but if a thrift store did get one they'd most likely not know what it was and put it in the women's skirt section.
I look every time I can.

Re: Thrift store find
I once found a woman's kilt (skirt) at a thrift shop. It was wool, made in Scotland. I had it shortened to 24 inches and I wear it regularly. The only difference is that it opens on the left.
