buying a long skirt

Post by andrew72 »

Hello, I am looking at buying a long skirt, just for relaxing around the house, and I am not sure where to begin. Anyway, here's a few pointers, I am looking at a skirt length of 40 inches (100 cm), I have a 33-34 inch waist and I am 5ft 10in tall. I've noticed denimskirts.com have got some nice styles. I also like the long floaty gypsy boho style too. Also, any tips about ordering a skirt via mail order.
Thank you

Purchasing clothing over the internet can be difficult since sizing varies so much from one business to the next.

However, I have found that Style J provides skirts giving the "waist size" and "actual measurement waist size" as well as length of each of their skirts. For example a "36 inch waist garment" may actually measure 37 inches so one can shop with a little more confidence. As a bonus, they also give the actual length of the skirt and yes they have some 40 inches and some even longer.

They are worth a look and their web site is: http://www.denimskirts.com/lodeskta.html
for their long denim skirts, and http://www.denimskirts.com/regularsizes.html for their "comfy casual skirts".

Check out their site, it may be what you are looking for.

I Agree about the sizing. I always make a note of what is the right fit from me from where.

From another thread at the bottom of the main menu:
http://www.ladiesemporium.com/store/002034.php

They give their size - and what the actual waist measurement is as well as the length of the garment, which gives one more confidence in making a purchase that will actually fit and not have to be returned.

Some interesting shopping sites are out there, but I am grateful for sites like this that save hours of internet surfing only to come up empty.

I got mine from ebay and just contacted the seller to get the actual dimensions. Worked for me.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

I have 2 long skirts. both are the Boho style. One I found at the thrift shop and the other I bought from Victoria's Secret. Both are floor length. One has a drawstring waist and the other has an elastic waistband.

Just to say thank you for sending me your hints and tips thus far. Just an example, when placing an order, would it be wise to use first initial then surname, for example, mine would be A Holloway.

Usually, if one is to pay by credit-card, once must give the full name as it's listed on the card. There's certainly nothing stopping one from just listing initials and surname, but it's not terribly common. When I have purchased skirts on-line and with a credit card not only do I use my full name, but also an honourific of "Mr".

Of course, if making a purchase in person, everything is obvious to everybody around.

Really, there's nothing to be ashamed of.

Andrew.

When buying any skirt either online or in person at an outlet just be you. Use your name, use your card. There is nothing to be ashamed of either buying a skirt or wearing one. If you try to hide "you" you are basically saying I shouldn't, it's not right etc. I can assure you, women do not question themselves these days, they just do it. Be you, enjoy you and above all enjoy life. Since I told family and friends in 2010, a huge weight lifted off my shoulder and they all remark who much more vibrant and confident I became. This increased when I went public in early 2011 because 99.9% of Society are just not bothered these days what people wear or look like. Don't be ashamed and don't question yourself. When you make your first purchase and or wear the skirt you will look back and ask why did I doubt myself.

Good luck

Andrew, firstly I will warmly welcome you to our forum, also I hope that you will gain some more confidence and, one day, venture forth skirted. "Senior" members of this forum are only too happy to lend support to those just embarking on this journey.
As to your desire to buy a 40" length skirt, I recently bought a skirt on eBay from a store called Alsharifa which, as you can tell from the name, is Muslim and caters for Islamic wear, but also has good western style skirts. I can't find the original post from another member, but his denim 40" so caught my imagination that I bought from there myself. The trouble is, however, I am a shorty and need to have a 40 taken up somewhat to prevent both fraying and the tripping hazard. Just Google for Alsharifa_com and it will come up.

Thank you for this information. I have checked the website out and it is really good. I clicked on a couple of skirts that I like and at the bottom are the measurements which I think is really good.

I have bought several long skirts on ebay , and haven't hit a problem yet. Being short, I only bid on skirts with a definite quoted length (36-37 inch), and size 14 for an elasticated waist, 16 if not.
Star buy (for 99p plus postage), is a skirt made of 22 panels, 1.5 inches at the waist, 12 inches at the hem, which at 22 feet round the hem, is quite a handful. But fun.
