No offence taken, and I wasn't suggesting you made any such associations in your mind. Just wondering why you thought other people might think it, that's all.
Some styles may be thought of as girlish, but most women still put a dress on for certain special occasions, so the basic idea of wearing a skirt or dress is not seen as being for girls.

I saw a man out and about in a kilt the other day- looked top quality as well.

I disagree... there seem to be many middle aged women wearing skirts in the warmer weather. There may be some strata of society in which children are the predominant skirt wearers but not in my experience.skirts really seen as being child-like...
When I heard about skirting, I jumped in with both feet!

There could be something geographical to this as well,
I'd agree with Skirting the Issue based on what I've observed around the office, it's been mainly my generation who've donned skirts for the warmer weather.
However, out and about in town it's been a complete cross section of ages in skirts, alas all female except for myself that is.
Whether this is peculiar to Aberdeen I couldn't say but I do know that the city has it's own fashions and traits that are not found much elsewhere. So much so we are often used for test marketing of new products.
