Town meeting with 300,000,000 people would be hard to organise though, wouldn't it? And you'd only be allowed 0.001 sec to get your point across!

That's precisely why representative governments were created -- pure democracy just does not scale.

Since Carl doesn't want the job, I would say elect my aunt and uncle. They are extremely sensible smart people. Alas, they are in their mid 80s and not doing so hot.
I would elect your cat, Sapphire. I think he (she?) would be the best. At least the cat would listen to advisors, is it not so?

Hi Mugs,
Which cat? I have 10.

Please don't say the one in my avatar, she passed away several years ago.

So it looks like it will be Obama vs Romney. We know what we'll get from Obama: more of the same, ie nothing. However I fear that with Romney what we will get will greatly resemble "Metropolis"

Thank goodness we do not have children. I feel badly for our friends who do, although given the nature of the kids they may be up to the task of tackling the problem. In one manner or other.

Citizens of the United States have been through many reaaly, really bad times, but somehow we keep plugging along. Whether it be Obama's ordorless, tasteless, nothingness or Romney's Metropolis, life will go on, ableit uncomfortably.

I am drawn to a snippet from Pink Floyd's The Wall: "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way", even if I'm not technically English.

Sorry to be picky, but the line comes from "Time" on Dark side of the moon.

And if you'd had the politicians we've had you'd know why we have to do it. You yanks do not have the monopoly on incipid or downright bad leaders.

Have fun,

Touche! I really need to learn to check my references.

I suppose the biggest difference is that we had Mark Twain to sum them up so well.

Any of 'em... eenie, meenie, minie, mo...and he or she wouldn't charge an exorbitant salary for at the least doing nothing and at the most hurting instead of helping.

HA! I take that to mean that you feel anything is better than what we have now. In that case I nominate a hen. She would at least do something positive - give eggs and work for chicken food.

I whole-heartedly agree, Sapphire, I whole-heartedly agree. Nobody says it like our Sapphire! (I am trying to be funny and mimicking the monopods from "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" from "Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis. :)

OOh My goodness! I couldn't believe I found a forum where many are not indoctrinated by the Socialist educational masses, and folks like crfriend are able to think for themselves. Government in this Country has become a runaway train,it gives trains a bad name, and I like trains. and I can't wait till "Open Season" if they don't abolish my right to bare arms first, Lets hope Oblabla doesn't come back to Hawaii again for Christmas and tempt Me to the tune of another $1.2 million borrowed dollars from the Communist Chinese, Prick. 90 days on the golf coarses since he took office, even dumbass Bush refused to play golf because He didn't want the mother of some young Marine or Soldier seeing Her Son getting killed while He was on the golf coarse. This Asshole from Hawaii and Chicago, and Kenya, and Indoniesia has No honor, and is an Embarrasment to the office of the Presidency.
sometime I'll tell you what I really think.I might have ruffled some feathers with some of You, for my love of this Country I will not appoligise, for my blatent disreguard of Your Socialist Views if offended, all I can say is Wake Up! To stay "On Topic" Pepper spray suppository for His Highness might be in order.
