Kilt Suggestions Please
Re: Kilt Suggestions Please
I like Ebay in general. Sure there are some shoddy goods there, but if they're cheap, then I might be inclined to take a chance, and just dump it if it doesn't suit. Or if the quality seems good but the sizing a bit doubtful, then I might also take a chance if it's cheap. I've had some good bargains there, skirts and other stuff that cost little but have given me great service. Treat it like a game of poker, you win some hands, you lose others, but what matters is your final result at the end of the day.

I agree with Owen on this issue. Ebay has generally been good to me over the years, but I pick sellers and products carefully. They are not always great, but like the poker game, you make the bet and take your chances. And price is very important to me.
That said, I have never bought clothing on Ebay. WAIT... I did buy an after market kilt a few years ago just to see what they might actually be like. It really wasn't bad and I learned they are not easy to wear and generic skirts are much more comfortable. I do wear it once in awhile for some occasions like visiting Memorial Day events and parades, especially for veterans. I've never had any problem there.

Living in the US I should suggest a Thrifty Kilt from Stillwater Kilts http://stores.channeladvisor.com/Stillw ... fty-Kilts/
They are no more than $30.
If you want to import some kilts/skirts from Europe you could have a look at Tartanista. http://stores.channeladvisor.com/Fred-O ... k=30042831
They have some short tartan skirts, starting at £15 and some of them look (probably enough to meet the wishes of your parents) like kilts. They have also cheap men's kilts, longer and a bit more expensive.
Good luck!

Re: Kilt Suggestions Please
I have 3 UnionKilt denim kilts and also have 2 traditional Scottish kilts. I have worn various ones to Church with no problem, sometimes to lead a music team including youngsters. I might get comments if I wear trousers.poszest16 wrote:As weird as it sounds my family does not have a problem with me wearing skirts, I guess the thing they have a problem with is the fact the skirt is not made for a man but instead a women. I asked what the difference was outwardly but they did not have much of an answer. Just for some information My family and I are strong and true Christian believers and Our beliefs are quite different then the stereo-typical Christian. For instance we believe that the verse in the bible referring to men wearing womens clothing and vise versa is referring to men or women who try to disguise themselfs as the opposite sex not just put on a skirt, Besides Jesus wore a dress. We all agree I am not trying to disguise myself because I want to wear a skirt just as a clothing item nothing else. I used to have a friend who we always wondered if he was straight or not (Until he came out and said so.) and because of that I can understand my parents concern that if other people my think the same about me. I might just have to work with them and ease them to the idea. Besides they made several remakes about me when I first started wearing Kimonos and Yukatas around the house.
I have a hard time believing that a skirt made for man would cost hundreds of dollars because what about those websites that sell skirts for cross dressersin mens sizes that only run about $30 to $50. Any suggestions there?
Traditional kilts are very expensive and supposed to last for a lifetime. Denim kilts seem expensive, but are much much heavier and more durable than a £30 pair of trousers.
Colin.

Not a "Kilt" but .....
check this out guys http://www.landsend.com/pp/StretchCargo ... igin=index
Strange - at first I thought I was looking at the rear view (pleats go on the back; right!?)
and the front would have been plain except for the left facing zip fly !?
But reading further; the description reverses everything.
The pleats and pockets are in the front and zip closing is in the center rear of the skirt.
Colors are fine except they are out of stock in the dark larger sizes.
A tad long for me - passing on this one.
I like their customer reviews section - gives clues to the fit and wearability of the item
not mentioned in the description section.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: Kilt Suggestions Please
I bought that Lands' End skirt last summer. In fact, it is the one in my hiking pictures posted here somewhere.
Ah, there it is under Pics and Looks. Subject is Skirted in SF Shows Himself. Sorry, I don't know how to link to it directly.
BTW, one good thing about LE is the link on each page to get live help. Before I bought the cargo skirt I did a live chat with them to find out how long it was.

Re: Kilt Suggestions Please
Made for men as well as having a label in male sizes? Not going to happen in the 21st century without a "pay through the nose" price. Just buy a skirt in a pattern that you like in a size that fits you. You really will sound like an idiot if you explain to everyone that you are wearing a kilt that is a male garment. How sexually insecure are guys these days? To the rest of the world a skirt is just a skirt. To me it is nothing more than an expensive, ugly and uncomfortable garment. Give me a five dollar cargo miniskirt any day that will allow more beer money.
