Re: Skirts and driving....
I've worn fairly full, bottom of the knee length cotton skirts on long distance drives on warm days several times. I find them to be very comfortable for summer driving. Now all I need to do is get up the courage to arrive at my destination while skirted.
So far, I've found a secluded spot and changed into more traditional clothing.

Re: Skirts and driving....
Just adjust the air flow vents (off the dashboard) down there and no problem.
Or if the outside weather is being civil wind down the windows.
The only problem I can forsee is if wearing a light weight skirt that billows up
like a balloon and blocks your vision. A short skirt this will not happen but one
that is knee length or longer with a very wide hem could spell trouble.
But drop a purse manbag or wallet in your lap and it should go away.
You could be a lot more uncomfortable wearing pants or shorts restricting all
cooling air currents from doing the cooling thing.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: Skirts and driving....
I usually wear knee-length or just above the knee pleated skirts while driving. I've yet to have one blow up in my face while driving on the highway with the windows rolled down and the fresh air vent on the kickpanel open. They do blow up a little, but, not enough. Granted, I'm not driving an open-air Jeep or Toyota Landcruiser. I did once see a woman who was wearing a very full, very lightweight skirt hop into an open-air Jeep. She just tucked the skirt underneath her so it became a pencil skirt and drove away. In that respect, a skirt probably is a better choice than a traditional wool kilt, since it'd be rather uncomfortable to sit on a mass of heavy wool, just to take advantage of nice weather.

Re: Skirts and driving....
I prefer a fuller skirt for driving than the A-line or straight skirts that are my norm. The fuller skirt (with several underskirts, usually 1 fuller one)keeps the sun coming through the front window from burning my thighs in the noon to early afternoon sun like happens all the time with trousers. I also prefer fuller for any plane rides anywhere. They tend to act like a fence to keep anyone from getting too close. It's like "Big MAN, big SKIRT, very strange, find a seat elsewhere if possible." Which is just the way I like it. Sometimes they want to sit with me and chat about the idea of a man in a skirt. I prefer that. I prefer an ankle length peasant skirt for travel with a petticoat and a regular half slip under the skirt. It's cooler than one might think and verry comfortable.

Re: Skirts and driving....
Discovered this thread a bit late.....I also like driving skirted, but short.. I Like the coolness, especially when the air-con is well angled to ventilate my emancipated shanks. Like shorts, I like the hemline while thus seated to fall to mid-thigh....but far nicer than shorts !

Just dug this out, which might illustrate my pleasure in driving while skirted.

Re: Skirts and driving....
I just got home from a 2,000 mile road trip, about half of which was done in the pleated cargo skirt shown in my picture thread. 700+ miles from my door to my parent's driveway including several stops at a bakery, for gasoline and lunch at highway rest stop. My parents are 90 and on the conservative side, so I changed into long pants before going into their house.
On the other hand, I did drive several hundred more miles to an old friend's house a couple of days later in the same skirt. Other than a brief look up and down from his wife and him when I got out of the car, no comment was voiced. We spent the rest of the day looking at changes they are making in their house, garden and catching up on the last year. Other than having to remember to sit properly as we chatted late into the evening, it was an uneventful visit.
I guess this is just another example of how the main barrier to skirt wearing is in one's one head.
Hmm, I seem to have drifted from the main subject of this thread.

Re: Skirts and driving....
I find skirts much more comfortable for driving on a long trip; particularly if I am by myself, so I must drive the entire distance. Pants somehow always seem to bunch up in the wrong places and constantly need to be adjusted. My skirts are short enough that I don't have to worry about them blowing up in my face; that's a good argument against a longer skirt. And, SF, I have gotten pretty adept at changing into pants just before arriving if I feel that precaution is necessary. Its not too hard to slip the pants on under the skirt, then remove the skirt without anyone seeing anything.
Re: Skirts and driving....
I'm 100% with you, Davy. I often drive long distances in a skirt and it's far and away the most comfortable way to travel. I drive fairly regular long distance routes and have places a couple of miles from my destination where I can change into more acceptable attire. The one that I can't do is the journey to Heathrow airport! There's nowhere to stop, except a service station 40 miles from the airport. Coming home from Heathrow isn't a problem though.

If I were meeting someone I did not wish to risk offending (a customer I don't know well for instance) I would walk into the terminal and change in one of the toilets before going to the arrivals area. No one at the airport ever seems very surprised to see people dressed differently.
Have fun,
Ian.

My sight is going downhill...I read that as "If I were meeting someone I did not wish to risk offending (a customer I don't know well for instance) I would walk into the terminal and change into one of the toilets" Amazing what the addition of "to" can do...If I were meeting someone I did not wish to risk offending (a customer I don't know well for instance) I would walk into the terminal and change in one of the toilets
