of the protagonist (usually the hero) of a story. And that is the biggest thing
MIS/MIK face.
The western culture, especially, is so entrenched in seeing skirts or dresses as
"women's wear" that even when it's not a skirt or dress, as in kilt or caftan,
the great unwashed public still sees it as only applying to women. Even male
skirts (see above) are seen in the same light as being something ONLY a woman
would wear.
Our culture is so ingrained with these images that replacing them with something
more truthfull is a hard process to get through.
Added to that is the decades long tradition of the burlesque shows both here and
in Europe which have as a staple the tradition of the "drag queen" as part of
it's format. And what went on on stages is what went on in the early days of
the movies. So that carried over too (think "Some Like It Hot" which I enjoyed
as a movie, especially the final scene with Joe E. Brown).
But that's the POV of most people.
Let's face it, most people get their news and information in sound bites or vid
clips today and most people don't research subjects. If men want to wear skirts
it's no concern of theirs unless they don't want to see that being done. If
they are anti something they are more prone to be active about their cause.
It's easier to hate!
And that's what we have. It's hard to be "for" something because you risk
yourself that way. You stand up for yourself and your beliefs and risk all.
But if you hate you hide in the safety of numbers.
Anything anyone has to say on any subject will generate someone who disagrees
with your POV.
And that's my POV!
