Recently, actor Kiefer Sutherland lost a bet. In the bet Sutherland agreed to wear a dress on the David Letterman show if he lost. Here's alink to the video:

But consider that he'd never done anything like that before. It was a totally new experience, one that he had been programmed against and yet he still went through with it.

To be honest I hate it when people ask me if I'm wearing a skirt for a bet. I tell them I'm wearing because I want to. However, they still seem oh so sure that I'm wearing it for a bet.

I guess that Keifer is not helping the cause one bit...

"No, I'm doing it because I won."

Well, it wasn't "totally new"..I've seen Keifer many times in his Clan Sutherland Kilt. The feeling around the legs is not THAT much different between a kilt and the skirt of a dress like the one he's wearing.

I'm not too impressed. Did you notice how the top of the dress looked ridiculously loose and baggy? No surprise...

When I saw the video, which you can see at this link: http://www.popeater.com/2010/01/14/kief ... letterman/, I too felt disgusted and like Skirted Viking, I also felt he didn't help our “cause.”

But I thought the most redeeming thing about the video was when Sutherland twirled around to show his dress and Letterman described the dress as "quite slimming." While some might see Letterman's quip as mocking Sutherland, he said it in such a nonchalant way to accurately describe how the dress looks on Sutherland, that it seemed like a “normal” reply to a “normal garment” that Sutherland wore.

Speaking of “normal garment,” while Sutherland wore the dress as a gag, I didn't think the audience found it that funny. Nor did they go bananas over seeing a man in a dress. While the situation is much different, if you can remember, or if you've seen DVDs of the old “Milton Berle Show,” the “highlight” is when Berle appears in full drag. Do you remember how the camera just “stared” at him while the audience went bonkers? It seems Letterman's audience had “progressed” or “matured” since Berle's time, as it didn't go bonkers over the dress Sutherland wore, which is shabby compared to the frocks Berle wore.

So will this “maturity” hearten freestylers to wear their dresses in public? And of course, they wouldn't be wearing their dresses as gags. And had there been any “bets” involved, those dress-wearing freestylers would had certainly won their bets.
