UK Prime Minister's Petition Web site

I notice that there are two petitions on the UK Prime Minister's petition web site (http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/) in the "Employment, jobs and careers" section.
One is "Make dress codes in the workplace illegal" which mentions men being forced to wear ties and suits in hot weather when ladies can wear anything cool, but also includes other issues about tie wearing and discrimination against men. The main item of clothing may be "ties", but the underlying motivation being addressed seems to be the same one that we are trying to address, and could help our aims.

The other petition seeks to define a third gender and includes a mention of dress code injustice. This is not, however, my way of achieving an outcome (ie to end dress code discrimination), but took my interest, nevertheless.

You may have to scroll to the second page, or do a word search.

Topics relating to men's fashion freedom are being raised in all sorts of places. I haven't looked at all the petitions as there are too many, but would be grateful to hear if there are any others that interest any of you.

I added my signature to the dresscode petition, which now has the grand total of 16. As a well know supermarket says, every little helps.

I've added my signature to the dresscode in the workplace petition, the more names added the better.

Thanks Charlie and Bryan for signing the dress code petition. That's 3 of us from here. I don't know how long the petition has been on the PM's site, but as you say, every little helps.

Another signatory here. So far 23 people have signed up; not a huge response.

Signing is limited to UK citizens or residents. The site requires you to enter your UK address (or if you're an expatriate, in an overseas territory, a Crown dependency or in the Armed Forces without a postcode, to select from the available list).

Have fun,

Do other countries have anything similar, to petition their leaders, whether on the Web or on paper?
There must be some way of safely getting ideas to the political leaders of the more democratic countries.

THere is an online petition site but I do not know how effective it is.

At the National level one of the best ways to get your Senator's or Representative's attention is to launch a letter writing campaign. and collect a certain number of signatures

At the state level, there are several ways of launching an initiative. You could propose legislation and ask your Senator or Representative to add it to the docket. You could also gather petitions (on paper) and collect a certain number of signatures (I think the number is 200,000) in order to get the initiative on the ballot for vote.

If your proposal gets on the docket for a state sub committee it will come up for a hearing. Gather all of your friends have then write a defense of the proposal, make 17 copies and show up at the state house for the committee hearing. Repeat for every committee and every hearing that gets held.

Get to know your reps and visit them often.

Each state will have a slightly different procedure. This is only an outline for Massachusetts
