My 3rd kilt - hit a roadblock
My 3rd kilt - hit a roadblock
So my next kilt is going to be a camouflage pattern, secured with nylon straps and buckle, giving a military theme.
I have planned for 2" pleats with 3" under in reverse-K style. Here's what happened after I pleated the right side. I realized my cheap camouflage fabric is just an 6.2" repeated sett. And my initially chosen pleating closely match the sett that the repeating pattern is obvious.
I did the left with 1.5" pleats and it seems to break the pattern up a bit. Going to have to unpick the completed right side and iron out all the pleats and back again. From the planned 16 pleats now it will be 22.

I think you are brave using camouflage material to make a traditional kilt. I made my camouflage kilt in lockdown using the X-Kilt https://www.xmarksthescot.com/Xkilt2ndedRevK.pdf pattern and taking ideas from my StumpTown kilt.

I am actually following the X-Kilt instructions. I just don't like velcro cos it makes a mess in the washer/dryer. I also don't see much difference between such contemporary and traditional kilts. It's mainly just the sizing of the aprons.Mouse wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 9:02 am I think you are brave using camouflage material to make a traditional kilt. I didn't like the velcro either, so I used snaps as used on my Utilikilt and StumpTown kilts.

I also had to pick up a bunch of pleats I had done on a project, its a real pain. Mine was unpatterned but I made them in the wrong direction than I had intended. Just take it slow and steady so you don't poke a hole in the fabric and you will be fine.
