Tinnitus

Post by DrFishnets »

I have suffered from low pitched tinnitus for years. I have constant low frequency tinnitus which sounds like a low hum in my head or the sound of a truck engine in the distance but I’ve grown used to it now.

However, I have been through a lot of stress and anxiety yesterday and woke up in the early hours of this morning feeling aggitated and stressed out. I then felt my right ear clog up and then terrible loud high pitched tinnitus set in which is driving me crazy. I just cannot get back to sleep with this loud piercing ringing in my right ear.

Strange as it seems before this happened I have been getting Morse code beeps in my right ear on and off for the past week. I may have to visit an audiologist but last time I went concerning my tinnitus my hearing test results came back as normal.

How often do you clean your ears :?:
Oils in the ear, will eventually clog the ear canal.
If you don't want to use a 'Q-Tip' to clean your ears, while in the shower,
drip very warm water into your ear. This will help to soften or melt the
ear wax build up. This has helped me hear better, especially when tuning
a pipe organ. I hope this works for you :!:

I used to wash inside my ears in the shower but stopped doing that a few years ago as I thought it was causing my low frequency tinnitus. I don’t really clean inside my ears. Last time I was at my doctors for tinnitus he checked inside my ears but he couldn’t see any wax build up or any problems. Me and my doctor both agreed that the tinnitus is caused by anxiety and emotional stress.

The high pitched tinnitus seems to have got a bit better so far. Of course I am a musician myself and years of playing keyboard, guitar and listening to loud music has probably been another cause of my tinnitus.

As a kid, I had ear ache. After various doc related things including hot oil, I worked out how to waggle my ears with a finger to keep the wax moving. To this day my ears produce wax with I regularly dig out carefully with a Q-tip. I too wake up occasionally with a high pitched whistle, which goes away with some waggling with the appropriate ear.

Mrs Mouse gets tinnitus, which I believe is different.

I've had high-frequency tinnitus for a few years -- it's like old- fashioned television line-whistle (625-line variety). I suspect it may be another consequence of Covid, which I've had twice despite having received every edition of the vaccine. My audiologist says I should wear my hearing aids more consistently (I tend to be a bit lazy about that) because stimulating the ears is beneficial.

Blow me -- while I was typing the foregoing on my phone, an invitation to get the latest edition of the Covid and 'flu vaccines popped up on the screen. So now I'm booked in. I hope it will at least stop the tinnitus getting worse.

I get ringing noises from my left ear sometimes, always have. Sometimes I can hear music in my right ear when it's dead quiet, usually a mix of a lot of different bands playing at the same time.

Not got any formal diagnosis though and usually it does not bug me to much.

I had a lot of ear infections when I was a kid though, don't know if that's related.

I've also had tinnitus, mostly high pitched, for many years. However, I remember some years back, for a few weeks, every time I went to bed I would hear the constant sound of what appeared to be distant train engine, that was stopping me falling asleep easily. Walking round the house one night I noticed the sound was the same amplitude in every room. A quick Google and I discovered that tinnitus can also exist as low frequencies. I also get the chirping crickets, as well as a few other sounds. It causes me problems when listening to people sometimes because it can be at the same amplitude or higher than he person speaking.

Same here, i've had tinnitus for years. Essentially its a high pitched noise (sort of several noises) at once. I'm fairly sure it was caused by my love of bikes. I commuted 48 miles into london and back everyday for years. That stopped when there were so many cameras that staying under the limit was impossible especially on the A40.
Anyway i think the tinnitus came from that. I'm used to it, which is good because it's not going away.

For ear cleaning, I use hydrogen peroxide. Works great, just position your head with the ear you want to clean up, add a little peroxide, and wait. When the bubbling noise stops, turn your head to drain it out and wax will come out with it. No need for q-tips. You can do the other side while draining the first.
