Re: Conversation about skirts at Art class
I have had several such discussions with women over my 8 years of volunteering, staff, other volunteers and public. I concurr with Stevies post 12th September. Too many men are concerned about a backward movement. Many female partners do not want it either. Masculinity is the master gender construct, men must maintain, women adopt. All been discussed on this forum before. Men in skirts are and will always be a small minority within society. I have had many a conversation with female visitors in my volunteering role admiring Edwardian female clothing, the outfits in portraits of women from 1700's and 1800's saying what wonderful clothing, an era gone and how they like them. Each time I look at that visitor and always in very modern, casual outfits and appearance, short hair, jeans, trainers, often baseball caps etc.
Men who want to embrace freedom of choice, expression and individuality should do so. Experiment with fashion. There is a world out there, on the whole an accrpting one. All aspects of society life have those who are for or against. Many men who would not put a skirt on are respectful and friendly towards me. Many women are as well. Yes some are not, that's their problem, not mine. I'm very comfortable enjoying my freedom of choice, expression and individuality.

Be yourself because an original is worth more than a copy.
