Skirts in foreign lands
Re: Skirts in foreign lands
I'm heading to Spain next month (September 2024) for a fortnight's holiday. I've bought a denim mini skirt especially for the occasion. I'm hoping that it won't raise too many eyebrows especially as I'll be in an area where naturism is acceptable. I imagine therefore that the local population are reasonably open-minded.
I've never worn a skirt in public in the UK but I have attended a few events (folk festivals and the like) in a black kilt.
The only responses were complimentary and most often from ladies. Most people seemed not to notice in fact.
Anyway, I'll report back on my experiences in early October. Wish me luck!

I would take both skirts with you. A black kilt can be worn anywhere with confidence since it is a standard part of mens wear. So on days you feel you can't rock the denim, use the kilt.mart106 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 6:09 pm I'm heading to Spain next month (September 2024) for a fortnight's holiday. Re: Skirts in foreign lands
Well I’m looking forward to flying to Fuertventura next Wednesday skirted all the way and all week, I’ll only be taking one pair of pants with me in case of an emergency. Otherwise for the full 7 days I’ll be wearing a variety of skirts some short and some long all day and every day. Including flying from Liverpool airport.
Always happy when wearing a skirt.
Re: Skirts in foreign lands
I like the idea of 'emergency trousers'. Sounds like something from Wallace and Grommit

To keep trouser free, maybe go for an emergency kilt instead?

Re: Skirts in foreign lands
good one I’ll stick with my shorts that I carry in my rucksack.
Always happy when wearing a skirt.

Thanks for the advice Mouse. I intend to take my kilt although it being wool and a fair weight I think I may wear it for the flight as I don’t want to overstep my luggage allowance.Mouse wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 7:02 pmI would take both skirts with you. Re: Skirts in foreign lands
I have a black kilt from those US guys in Stumptown. For me it is the ideal garment when I want to be under the radar, but still in a skirt, for the following reasons. IMHO
1. It is smart and black (I have worn this to my aunts funeral)
2. It is unquestionably a mans kilt. (It is made for a man)
3. It is not Scottish. (I am not Scottish and don't have a clan, the kilt is made in America, nothing to do with Scotland.)
4. Being made of 65Poly/35Cotton Twill, It is not too heavy.
This skirt sits at one end of my range of skirts. Right next to a pair of trousers. (Which I have not worn for a number of years now)
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...
Re: Skirts in foreign lands
Well my journey to Fuertventura via Liverpool airport went well, quite uneventful except when I had to go through security. As I walked through the scanner it bleeped, I thought not again, anyway this young security checker couldn’t have been older than 20 years old asked me t stand in another scanner with my arms raised, he was having a good look at my grey checked mini skirt, I then exited the scanner, he then started to feel around the tops of my thighs on both legs but he was still not convinced, he then started using his electronic paddle to scan my legs again, I’m sure he was enjoying this too much , but still not satisfied, I then had to raise my foot on to another kind of scanner for him to check my legs again!, I then had to place my foot on another box type of scanner to scan my trainers, he finally was satisfied and let me continue through security. I’m sure he will be telling everyone about this for weeks .
After this I continued to go to the gates to board my plane, I didn’t notice any people staring at me, heard no comments, it was almost a normal thing for guy to walk around wearing a mini skirt.
It was a breeze at Fuertventura after landing, no problems.
At my hotel I’ve been wearing different skirts all day including in the evening for dinner. A really great start to my holiday..

Re: Skirts in foreign lands
I always make sure that I have no metal parts, really no metal parts, when I go through security. I'll wear my USA Kilts casual which is fastened by means of Velcro. I have no kilt pin, no belt, no garters, no watch. Except the kilt only socks, a polo or t-shirt, and sneakers.
Only once, I have been checked manually. I was between my legs but it only took a few seconds.

I don't fly, so I never have to deal with "security". Life is better this way. The most scrutiny I've ever gotten is a chat with train crew -- and that's almost always cordial. Sometimes it's hilarious, as well. I'm not a troublemaker, and that's plainly apparent after speaking with me for a few moments.

Re: Skirts in foreign lands
Well I’ve been here in sunny Fuerteventura for 5 days now and in all this time I’ve worn skirts all day, different skirts mostly short and pleated or flared, I have not had any negative comments made to me in all this time. I’m staying in a 4 star all inclusive adults only hotel, so every day I’ve worn a different skirt down to breakfast and lunch with no comments from anyone. I’ve noticed a couple of double takes and stares but that is to be expected I suppose. Tonight I’ve been the most bravest by wearing a short flared black skirt and black sheer tights going down to dinner, and I’ve been amazed how I’ve been totally ignored by everyone it’s been a fantastic week in the sun and I am so proud that I have been brave enough to spend everyday wearing a skirt, I don’t own any dresses because of my belly they don’t give a good look.
So if anyone is still not sure about wearing a skirt in public I say go for it, because as it’s been said on this site so often the public are not mothered by it, yes they double take but generally are not bothered any more.

Home or foreign lands, it is all good. I think we need a a graphic --- the thousands of times men here have affirmed skirt wearing in public is a non-event, except in one's own head; and the comparative graph column, the few times there have been any negatives, save the SO or your own fears! It would be way lop-sided. I very glad you've had a great week, and posted about it. Difficult to do, but try to capture a picture or two with some other patrons in the background -- Mouse gets 'em with a remote trigger; or somebody there to memorialize your visit. Enjoy, and thank you.Paul wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 8:10 pm Well I’ve been here in sunny Fuerteventura for 5 days now and in all this time I’ve worn skirts all day,....
