And you will note that none of the (main) male characters wore those.
One for the Trekkies, has the skant been re-introduced as star fleet uniform?
That came in 1987 and it didn't last long at all, 2 seasons, can't see the progress in that.
That's nearly 30 years after the Time Machine and have we made and here we are in 2024, star date......, boldly going, nowhere?
None of the main males, true, but Patrick Stuart, eat your heart out.

If I recall correctly, women in mini-skirts were a feature of the original Star Trek, back during the 1960s. Of course, males were almost always in trousers.

Seb is right TM.
Ryker and Picard are wearing dress uniform top coats not skants.
I'd guess that design is based on ships officers frock coats 18th 19th century.
I'm not a trekkie, but my son is.
Gods, imagine Captain Kirk or Scottie in a dress, eugh!
Steve.

I have never worked out why men can wear long coats which look like a heavy dresses with buttons down the front, but not a skirt?

Why do I see so many effeminate men but no men in skirts?

Or why one one will bat an eye seeing a guy in a bathrobe getting the mail in the morning, but a dress or nightgown that covers just as much...

The great mysteries of the human existence on the third rock from the sun.
My newest "coat" certainly fits your description Mouse and now you have me thinking of that very possibility, literally a dress coat?
BM, it depends, most gay men wouldn't dream of donning a skirt and budding trans females dress like most girls, in trousers.
Steve.

I guess that makes sense, these being long coats, rather than dresses worn over trousers. Which makes me wonder if this is supposed to be a future version of a man's suit? If so, note the absence of ties.

Btw, even if a long coat may look dress like, the expectation that it would be worn over trousers makes it socially acceptable.

Yes that is the major distinction between between MIS, gay men and trans women:
1. MIS like clothes
2. Gay men like men
3. Trans want to be women

It just occurred to me that some of these long coats could be worn over a skirted rig.

Some commercially available coats may be pre-adapted for MIS.

I wonder what Scots think of Martin Quinn playing Scottie.

Ah, but I have the benefit of no caring what "society" expects.

I've never met anyone who was bothered Grok, but in a dress, not a "pretty" thought at 07:00 or anytime for that matter.
