Quoting Procedures Etiquette - A Trend

Post by Uncle Al »

Hi Guys 'n' Gals :D

A "trend' has developed when it comes to quoting another person.
That person's ENTIRE post is quoted, only if the responding person is referring to one or two sentences.
That procedure takes up space and wastes the readers time. If the reader wants more information, the
reader may move up in the thread to read the entire "original" post.

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS - The responding person is able to edit out the unrequired verbage.

Also, when replying to a post, just use the POST REPLY button at the bottom of the thread.
The quotation marks button, should only be used when responding to a specific portion of the previous
person's post, or to a response further up in the thread/topic.

EXAMPLE - If John Brown wrote 3 sentences but the responder was replying only to one,

This is a tree.
There is a cat in the tree.
The wind is blowing to hard for the cat to survive.

Wrong way-
John Brown wrote:This is a tree.
There is a cat in the tree.
The wind is blowing to hard for the cat to survive.
Who let the cat out anyway?
----------
Correct way is to edit out what is not required -
John Brown wrote:The wind is blowing to hard for the cat to survive.
Who let the cat out anyway?
--------
OR use the keyboard format {quote} .. {/quote}, changing the {..} to [..]
and copy/paste the portion you want to quote -
The wind is blowing to hard for the cat to survive.
Who let the cat out anyway?
--------
You may have noticed many "Old Timers" here, trim out un-necessary parts when quoting
another person's written thoughts. This is proper forum etiquette :!:

PLEASE try to follow proper etiquette when replying to a post.

THANKS for reading this :D

Thanks Al. That trend was starting to really grate on me as well.
