Howie’s a great guy. I have a three piece kilt suit of his, plus a plain grey tweed kilt. Both are amazing.
I’ll get a pinstripe kilt suit before I’m done. It won’t be cheap but it will be amazing.

Hi Ray
That's fine when one has the spare cash but it doesn't really get us any further on the road to fashion freedom.
In fairness, I'd rather spend my money on that than a Tom Browne creation.
If I wanted an avant-garde kilt that is.

I disagree just a slight bit - I think the more unbifuricated garments are seen in the wild, the more wearing unbifuricated garments will be seen as normal. The regular person on the street has hard enough of a time giving these the proper name - we’ve even seen reporters call skirts a kilt and kilts a skirt. And technically, though I have never really researched the “history” of the kilt, anything that isn’t “traditional” can’t really be called a kilt anyhow from what I gather.
I think the problem is price, availability and biases - the latter being the show stopper for most.

I remember when he first started to advertise kilt/skirt suits in non-tartan fabrics.
I would love to have one of Howie's suits but, I don't want to take out a second
mortgage to finance that suit purchase.

You don’t have to.
The whole rig will probably cost US$2,500. That’s a lot for clothing, but it will last 25 years easily. That’s US$100 per year or US$2 per week.
Far better than the throwaway polyester skirts that ruin the environment.
I’ll take the kilt option.

To slightly disagree in response Coder, I have one particular misgiving.
That is around creating a new "normal".
If we create a "normal" skirt for men in the kilt mould, are we much better off.
Seems to me we'd just be creating a second straitjacket for ourselves.
In terms of longevity though Ray is right, a properly made kilt will quite likely outlast the original owner.
In that respect, the value for money cannot be questioned.
Steve.
