Nice article.
The best part about the men in skirt trend is that there is no new “men’s only” type of skirt that is becoming famous. Any and all skirts that used to be exclusive to ladies are now up for grabs.
Sounds good to me :)

Can A Man Wear A Skirt to Office?
In an ideal world, they would be able to. Unfortunately, the dress code in almost every office is very clear about what is acceptable for women and what is expected from men. So, unless your office clearly allows men to wear skirts, you cannot.
Technically, this isn't true. Unless you're an independent contractor or something similar, employees subject to the civil rights act of 1964 can not be discriminated against on account of sex, which means your employer can not enforce any gender stereotypes.

So sayeth the Supreme Court...

... for now. Changes forthcoming. But hey, enjoy it while you can!

The only way to prohibit skirts for men in the office would be for the office to prohibit skirts for everyone.

That’s an awesome article! Is really supportive and proposes entire outfits for the newbie like myself. Though I’m not a fan of the jeans/pants under the skirt look, I can see how that look would be more palatable to the first time skirt wearer.

Thanks for posting!

So then say for the airlines, having mens and woman’s uniforms for flight attendants is not legal? And they should have skirts for male flight attendants available? That could cause anarchy in the skies! Haha

I think in the UK that the Law prevents any discrimination due to sex, religion, age, disability etc. so if I wanted to wear a skirt to work I would have a good case if they objected but allowed females to wear skirts. As it is I work for the Gumment and we have no dress code, other than it should not be offensive and should be "decent", which I presume means it must cover one's wobbly bits. So if I wanted to wear a skirt to work I could.
Having said that I choose not to, probably because my previous Boss was someone who had to take the piss at every opportunity and who when he heard I had been seen wearing a skirt asked me in front of everyone if it was true. I must admit that he popped around to the house a few weeks back to return a chainsaw and when I was in a skirt, no comments or obvious looks, I wonder if word will get back to the guys at work, I honestly don't care because I know they talk about it anyway. What they say, I don't know.
I still can't help but feel jealous of my current (female) boss when she turns up in a cool Summery dress. Still, 55 days of work and I will be done with that whole episode of my life.

AND then the tangent of the boys in UK schools having to wear pants (not shorts) in the hot extremes of summer while girls wear skirts -
THUS equality of the dress code enters and the boys win with wearing skirts -
much to the consternation of the authorities -
this a seasonal issue but the reverse could be said/had for girls wearing trousers in the winter ?

This is solved trivially by having one summer-weight skirt and a "3-season" skirt. Done.

Truth be told, long skirts are warmer in winter than trousers. I am so glad I leaned that a few years ago. My housemates look at me like I'm nuts, but I know things they don't -- or they don't want to admit to knowing.

I also work for KC III like B&B, and yup, skirts or dresses most comfortable around the office.
However, all is not so straight forward in the oh so liberal UK, I'm afraid.
B&B is absolutely correct in the matters of discrimination, these are referred to as "protected characteristics"
However, dress codes are treated somewhat differently except in transgender cases.
An employer has to set a fair dress code, but it does not have to be equal.
If he feels that allowing a man to wear a skirt would harm the business reputation, then no MIS, simples.
This is based on what is "generally acceptable", ie women either, men trousers only.
As far as I know there has only been one tribunal case and that failed.
The fact that many employers will allow it is at their own discretion, but it is not enshrined in the law.
Given our present political climate that will not change anytime soon.
Steve.

A trucker jacket is a denim jacket.

Since turning 60 I have refused to wear anything denim. the one old denim skirt I have will probably never be worn again.

I left my last employer at the end of 2019, volunteered to take separation pay, and be part of a layoff due to a merger and too many employees.

The only dress code was for people working in the retail stores, Cellphone Company, not those of us in network operations. At this point if I was still working for them I would probably give it a try and just show up in a nice Maxiskirt, I would the only person in the group in a skirt.

The only other person I ever saw in a skirt was the Regionals Directors' assistant a 20-something woman that always dress in what I would consider non-business-appropriate attire like she was going out to the nightclub, not to the office.
