Interesting. Was wearing the same black cable-knit sweater dress I'd worn to Kroger before and gotten a compliment on from a young lady, but with a Navy blazer and a turtle-neck t-shirt with horizontal black and gray stripes under the dress to fill in the décolletage, such as it isn't.

The speaker was a tall, good-looking middle-aged black lady. So I smiled and said "It's a Lane Bryant sweater dress, and quite comfortable. Sort of a full-body sweater for the cold weather." I paused and she didn't say anything more, so I nodded and resumed course and speed.

My first thought was that you could've just said, "Thank you."

But it might have been more interesting if you asked,"Do you like it?"

Will have to bear that in mind. I usually think of the best lines after-the-fact.

Post a link to that dress, por favor. I'm always on the lookout for a good sweater dress, and cable knit is the best. The turtleneck is a good idea for correcting the "flaw" in dresses meant to reveal hardware that we lack.

Tonight, as has become traditional, I went to midnight candlelight service kilted. A bit more tweaked than usual:
- black shoes with Livi Active shoe socks with just a bit of white showing above the shoe, then black lace-trimmed leggings and a black straight skirt as underkilt, then my Irish National tartan in a Stillwater Kilts "Standard" version.
- on top a long-sleeved black turtleneck tshirt under a white cable-knit long-sleeved turtleneck sweater under a black Lane Bryant blazer, arranged so that there was about 1/2" of black turtleneck peeking out at the top of the white turtleneck at the neck and on the sleeves you had the black blazer, then about 1/2" of white sweater sleeve and about 1/2" of black turtleneck tshirt sleeve.

I'd say at least 10 ladies smiled and commented favorable on the outfit with out 4 guys also commenting favorably. If I ever move over to the other side of the county I may consider attending that church regularly.

I have also observed that black women are about two to four times more likely to comment respectfully on my clothes or just say, "Hello," when I am out in a skirt. I suppose there is a cultural tendency among white people to ignore the "elephant in the room". It is kind of nice to have someone speak to me when I am fashionably dressed! I have grown to appreciate it.

So my wife says "you're attire!"

I say "if I'm the tire, you be the rim, and I'll hug you wherever you go!"
