"Over the top" wrote the journalist ! What sort of closeted life has that person been leading?
I like the business suit, but why the trousers under the skirt?

Possibly a sign as to how...Agnlicized parts of India have become? Certain traditional garments in India are skirtlike, but in some places, you only wear one if you're a priest, or a hillbilly. I read about someone riding a train from New Delhi down to Tamil Nadu, and he observed that many federal civil servants would rush to the restrooms once aboard the train and change into sarongs. It's not so much something new, it's more like....reclaiming something that was once the norm!

I was using "hillbilly" in the context as being someone who's backwards from the middle of nowhere. Not necessarily like someone from, say, that movie Deliverance. Further north in India, it seems, and in some major cities (most notably New Delhi and Mumbai), there's a kind of "backwardness" attached to traditional skirted garments for men (although Hindu priests and ascetics get a pass on this). I read that at some companies, men who dress "traditionally" are at the very least teased, whereas even a pair of denim jeans suddenly makes a man more respected. I'm glad this guy in that article is trying to "return" the men's skirt.

Pfew. I was having serious trouble, there, trying to visualize an Indian guy wearing a skirt, sitting on a log across the river, and playing a banjo.
Just kidding...

I was successful in the venture. It hurt the head.

In the NC mountains, around our white water rivers, you often find tee shirts that read "Paddle faster. I hear banjo music!"
