Boy in a dress - TV film

BBC 1 have just trailed a film called 'Boy in a dress' to be shown on Boxing day (26th Dec). The trailer is quite short and shows the opposition the lad gets, but the final shot shows the football team all in dresses. Hopefully its a lighthearted 'feelgood' film and the lad comes out on top. Might be just the sort of thing the opposing 'other halfs' should watch

Based on your description, I think it was probably made from a children's book, "The Boy in the Dress". Yes, it does have a good ending with an interesting twist, but it may not be useful for an adult target audience. Just a little outside of plausible, in my opinion.

If I remember correctly, it was due to be screened around tea-time so it probably is aimed at the younger audience.

Thanks Charlie for this info.
I will shurely watch this film.
We nowadays have BBC on the cable in HD quality which is quite an improvement.

it's a tv film made from a childrens book of the same title written by David walliams
from the amazon page for the book>>
Dennis was different.
Why was he different, you ask?
Well, a small clue might be in the title of this book…
Charming, surprising and hilarious – The Boy in the Dress is everything you would expect from the co-creator of Little Britain. David Walliams’s beautiful first novel will touch the hearts (and funny bones) of children and adults alike.

Reaper, that is indeed the one I was thinking of. I just didn't quite remember the author's name off the top of my head. You might well like it, but previewing or reading the book might be a good idea before taking it to family who doesn't approve of skirts on men, depending on level of opposition. As I said, I found it outside of plausible, which detracted from it for me. Then again, sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

There is an old but outstanding film along a similar theme called 'Billy Elliot'. If you haven't seen it, it is well worth watching.

Unfortunately, Walliams sort of pre-empted an idea of mine to write a story about a boy wearing a dress. He even pinched my name as well, the ungrateful swine!!!! It's a bit difficult to even write an autobiographical account of my experiences under my own name. Oh well, back to the drawing board but I do have some other ideas ....

An alternative to 'Boy in a dress' might be:
The boy who hated trousers.
The boy in a skirt
But mum - girls wear jeans!

Overall I thought it was positive, though I'm inclined to agree with the reviewer's observations about the part played by Walliams (as the slightly camp stand-in referee).

A happy new Year to all at Skirtcafe.
I've just watched the "Boy in a Dress" for the second time over the Christmas period. I enjoyed it greatly, with some wonderful performances. However, it stirred my memory - I suddenly recalled the FIRST skirt I ever wore - which was hand-made for me by my German teacher, Miss Zhiem, at an all-boys school in Norfolk, almost 50 years ago. The reason for this sartorial generosity on her behalf- I was cast as "Glumdalca" - a giantess - in a school play "the Life and Times of General Tom Thumb", and she was the wardrobe mistress. The skirt - a fairly plain khaki denim skirt, was matched with an army battledress top and wellington boots. I remember little more of the performance. I'm sure I acquitted myself well, but sadly no photos remain!
It's a strange thing - memory, isn't it.
Anyone else have similar memories of their first skirt?

My first skirt was a kilt, bought for a wedding to go with the rest of a rented outfit. However, I remember trying out a nightdress belonging to my Mother, that was the first time I wore something unbifurcated, this was way back when I was a schoolkid.
