A skirt company wants to make running kilts!
I have recently been approach by a running skirt company (not runningskirts.com but another one) They will be making an option for men’s running kilts and have ask if I a willing help with suggestions. I have a few suggestions but wanted to hear from people hear. I think this is a great opportunity to have a say in the design of running skirts for men. So please let hear what thoughts you have for a good running kilt. Some thoughs I have.
Length - Needs to be slightly longer than womens (about 2in longer coming to about 4-5in above the knee)
Design - Needs to not hug the hips and butt like womens skirts, maybe a little like a kilt or pleated netball skirt.

A good idea!
My suggestion for a mens’ running kilt would be a closed short skirt, pleated on the back and flat on the front. It would mean that it had the kilt’s main characteristics but with no apron to blow open. Elastic waste or zipper. Length about 20” = by most men approx. 4” above knee.
An alternative could be a skirt, flat on back and front but pleated to both sides.

In addition to things already mentioned, pockets. Two front slash pockets at the least and belt loops, too. Whether I'm running (walking) for exersize or running errands I want somewhere to carry phone, keys, knife, wallet, or other.
You don't get to judge me by your standards. I have to judge me by mine.

And a licence for that knife! In this increasingly Orwellian country, you now need to have a licence to carry a pocketknife---and that isn't an untruth dreamt up by tabloid journos
BTW, I think the running kilt's design is now complete.

Agreed. The only pocket I ever found useful in running shorts is a small pocket, right against the waistband at the side or centre back, fitted with a closure (velcro or a zip) and just big enough to hold a car or door key. If the skirt is intended for running, rather than fashion, I suspect that belt loops and any more pockets are utterly irrelevant and simply add weight for no good purpose. Likewise more pleating than is required to allow a full stride is just extra fabric and weight to carry and more length than required for modesty fits into the same category.couyalair wrote:Bruises all over you!Taj wrote:... running (walking) for exersize {with} phone, keys, knife, wallet, or other.
Have fun,

My knees don't appreciate running these days, but I out walk most people. Hence, no worries about bruises from pocket stuff. I try to avoid buying too much dedicated purpose clothing.
I feel for you Aussies. A license for a pocket knife? We would be up in arms at that idea in the States. Take anything but my knife. It is key to all survival. The only more important tool is your brain.

Having been doing a fair bit of hiking in my kilt, I would love to have a light weight skirt rather than a kilt for hiking. I would suggest that the skirt hug the hips somewhat since when hiking above the tree line the wind flaps under my kilt exposing underwear. It's ok if I'm hiking alone but embarrassing when I with a younger crowd. I would like to see some kick pleats either on the sides or back. A good length would be either at the knee or 2 inches above.
My waist size varies during the year depending up on how much exercise I'm getting so elastic on the waist with a belt makes sense to me. Zip openings on the right side show that its definitely designed for a man. It also preserves a flat front. There will be the bump, but hell we are men and proud of it! Add some deep side seam pockets for a nice tailored look. If the price is right put me one the list for the guy to model the new design.

I would go for knee length, too.
I think two lengths would be good - a short one for actual running and maybe for tennis etc, and a knee length for hiking and other activities.

I think that is awesome I hope they go through with it! I would say it should be a little bit longer than women's , I currently run in a runningskirts athletic skirt with shorts built in underneath and it works really good just a lil short I think but it is a plaid design which makes it seem more like a kilt and actually had people ask where I got the kilt

In what way is a "running skirt" any different from any other skirt?

Running skirts are sportswear and this usually obvious from their styling and fabric. Think of running shorts and imagine them unbifurcated instead. Usually the running skirt has a built-in panty/shorts thing too, in order to preserve modesty.couyalair wrote:In what way is a "running skirt" any different from any other skirt?

Netball skirts are also sportswear, but they tend to be more flared than running skirts, and often pleated.

I realy like some of the netball skirts I've seen, I did a search and seen a white and black netball dress, (a one piece) it had a jersey like top that I liked.
