I'd love to, unfortunately, I've never been able to afford an authentic Fraser tartan kilt. :( I have one straight knee length skirt I sewed in Fraser Hunting wool, but here in nearly the southernmost point in the USA it hardly ever gets cold enough to not be very hot in wool. 8)

Sport Kilt has them in poly (not as hot as wool) for a reasonable price (for a kilt), and in large sizes:

Question why is it Apr 6 and not the weekend before St Patrick's Day. After all we wish to encourage folks to wear kilts and skirts out and about. Reason 2. I wore my sport kilt and there were no looks of displeasure or ridicule remarks made as everyone knew that St Patricks Day was around the corner.

In anticipation of Tartan Day, I wore my US Navy Sportkilt to choir practice last night. Practice is held at a local HS and the director is also the director of the HS during the day.

Anyway, just about everyone is seated, the director is standing on his box getting ready to begin, I come strolling in and walk past him (he is facing the chorus), he starts chirping and making funny unintelligible sounds, a couple of chuckles and finally, "hey, it looks good". Seems as a long time director of HS Choir, he had never seen a kilt in his classroom before.

Of course, my face turned a couple shades of red, but I continued on to my seat.

Nothing more was said except at the end, one of the members identified himself as a Wallace with roots back to William hisself.

I am thinking this choir director hasn't seen anything yet, time to think about what skirt to wear to practice!

What was said? Is it printable in a polite genteel family-friendly forum? Given the kilt shots I've seen of you, I'd think that the chap's comments would have been those of praise.

Stevie D can comment well on skirted rigs worn for musical performances; he routinely performs in such attire.

Carl,
The sound that came from him was like the sound made by an AM radio when you spin the dial. It's as if he didn't know what the Hell to say! It took him completely off guard and I would have thought he had seen everything by now. Can you imagine what walks into his HS classroom? Apparently everything but kilts!

House Resolution 41

Whereas April 6 has a special significance for all Americans, and especially
those Americans of Scottish descent, because the Declaration of Arbroath,
the Scottish Declaration of Independence, was signed on April 6, 1320,
and the American Declaration of Independence was modeled in part on that
inspirational document;

Uncle Al:

Thanks for the link (history)!

It is going to be a bit dicey wearing the kilt in Minnesota on Monday.
We are expected to be on the tail end of a forecasted blizzard.
Guess I will have to strut my stuff in the M.O.A. (Mall of America).

It's supposed to be 90F here Monday. It's 84F here now at 5:07 AM, Thanks to my Air Conditioners it's a balmy 74F in my house now. Monday, Here, Would be fine Kilts weather, actually, it might be too hot for a wool kilt. Bummer. :D

That maybe is not such a problem as you think. The wool is a good insulator and it doesn't mean you'll be toasted if wearing a kilt in hot weather. That could be even more true in very hot weather. Just look the nomads in Sahara for instance; many layers of fabric to act as an insulator and light breeze is helping too.
