I currently wear jeans style skirts from Midasclothing.com. However I found the lining to be a bit on the short side and the skirt hem was a bit rough against my knees. I thought to myself 'I need an underskirt or slip'. I have some men's low neck brushed cotton vests which I found I could wear as slips though they are slightly long and show a bit under the skirt hem; not that this matters too much as I currently only wear skirts indoors and no longer have the rough hem chafing my knees. I haven't gone 'public' yet. I tried searching for underkilts and discovered jdez.com sell these. I tried contacting them but no response. Is there anywhere else I can get underskirts for men? I don't want to wear women's slips as I feel this is getting too close to transvestism for my liking; although I don't mind if they're unisex slips.

I too have found that the hems of denim skirts are rather rough on my delicate (!) skin and so when wearing a denim skirt or kilt I add a slip. I have a plain black one from Marks and Spencer (no lace trim, just a simple practical garment to prevent rough material from chafing) and also have a Jdez cotton under kilt which is good, but you could easily make one from the body of a suitably sized cotton t shirt and a length of elastic for the waist band...

This company makes lace-less underskirts for men only. Known as "Kilt Liners". And great tights with flies. Try them at their site and see if you like them.

I have five of these, all in different colours. They are thicker material than women's slips and have no frills or lace. They are made in a slippery nylon material which has a satin like feel, not only is it very comfortable but it also helps the kilt/skirt to sit properly.
I also made a cotton slip for a colder day by mating up an old jockey underpants waistband sewn onto the lower part of a tee shirt, cut just below the armholes.
A heavyweight wool kilt is warm enough without needing a slip or liner but a washable lining does save on dry cleaning costs.

I would think that a lining would be the best answer to a rough hem, IMO better than showing a slip.

You wanted to know a little more about me; well here goes....

I'm just over 40 years old and live in Exeter in the south-west of England. Apart from my interest in men's skirts my other interests are rock and pop music; science fiction, especially Star Trek and Dr Who; and basic astronomy. For a number of years I've wanted to wear skirts as, especialy sat down indoors on comfy seats, I found my trousers would tend to ride up and tighten around my crutch which is rather uncomfortable. I remember chatting to my brother on this subject and said to him "the Scots have the right idea in wearing kilts" He agreed. Also, back in the Eighties, I would notice a lot of women would wear cotton petticoats showing under the hem of their skirts and have thought 'if men can wear kilts (skirts), then why not comfortable cotton underskirts?' I'm not talking about anything frilly or feminine, just something basic and comfortable and perhaps to give a bit more security (no perverts trying to take a peek up my skirt).

Hope this breaks the ice a bit and am glad I have found this web site where I can share my views with others.

I wear nylon underskirt (slip) under all my skirts for several reasons. First and most important, it helps the skirt hang properly without riding up when sitting, secondly it keeps me from allowing any sweat from my crotch area to get on the inside of my skirt. I'm overweight so I have a sweating problem in that area. The underskirt really does a job well done.

For another option, have a look at this post about the Wichita skirt which I am proposing to wear as an underskirt, and which I am wearing right now with a traditional Scottish kilt over it.

Thanks for coming back and adding more, skirtpettiman. You mentioned Star Trek which reminded me of the ill-fated unisex dress on TNG. I'm not sure why it wasn't used in later seasons but it always struck me as unprofessional looking on anybody.

I too have an M&S black slip. They are available on their web site (around £5 at last view). The ones in store all seem to be lace edged, but the web ones are definitely plain and unisex.
