Marc Jacobs Trades In Skirts for High Heels at Louis Vuitton
Mon, 10/06/08 — 05:22:50 PM

>> Marc Jacobs loves throwing curve balls — both on the runway and with his personal inclinations — and during New York Fashion Week he was quite taken with wearing skirts.

He appeared on the end of both the Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs runways in skirts, explaining: "I did a lot more skirts in this collection for women than I usually do — we usually do a lot of pants. So I bought this one, and I discovered how nice it felt to wear. They’re comfortable, and wearing it made me happy, so I bought more. And now I just can’t stop wearing them."

Less than a month later, it looks like he's decided to stop wearing them. Yesterday at the Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 presentation, he debuted a new look instead: slicked-back hair, a pinstriped suit, and Nicholas Sarkozy-like stacked heels. Wonder if it was the French president who inspired him?

Maybe he doesn't have enough formal shoes to match yet. He's allowed to have variety anyway. Rare skirt wearer me thinks it is okay to have skirts as an option without having to wear them all the time.

That's the way I see it as well- something to add to your wardrobe to wear as and when you feel like it. That's what fashion freedom means to me anyway

I have 2 pairs of trousers that I didn't pitch when I decided on public skirting for good. I've put both on at least once since 2006. Each time I do, it reminds me why I quit wearing them. I get another experience with the saw edged crotch chewing up my unmentionables and re-store them in the drawer from which they appeared. I've decided to just wear clothes that is not only making me feel good emotionally, but making me feel good physically too. About the only pair of tubes I'm still using is a pair of fleece sweat pants for sleeping on really cold nights. I've gone to the grocery twice wearing them under my skirt too. Tights are warm, fleece sweat pants are warmer. It's been down to 45F here so far this year, prolly bottom out around 40F in January or February. As I live in a moist, humid environment, those temps "get" to me more than they would if I lived in a dry climate. I suppose I could wear my fleece trousers on nights when I go to Bingo in Winter, but why disappoint all the old ladies who are waiting to see what my fashion statement of the evening is going to be. :) AMM mentioned he had a fleece petticoat, I've never heard of one of those, does anyone know where I could buy such a thing?

I'm very happy with the fact that I'm no longer just a male hump who doesn't care how he looks. But someone who, even though I'm overweight, looks in the mirror to see if I've lost a pound or two or if there is any dirt or marks on any particular skirt or other clothing I'm wearing. I didn't USED to care, when I was a T-shirt, loafers, cut off shorts 365 day guy. Now I do care how I look. I think that's definitely a positive. :thewave:

I have worn black long underpants under a long skirt in the winter. That's as close as I am going regarding tights. After all, to me, they again bring up the problem of an uncomfortably tight (pun unintended) crotch. As to the fashionista wearing a skirt in the limelight, I too would like to know if he was ridiculed into submission and back into trousers or was it a publicity stunt in the first place? A Northern Hemisphere summer in another six months will be the big test although,as many of us on this board have proven, a long skirt can be warm and fun to wear.

oh, I cut the "panty" part off right at the top of the legs, (creating high thigh highs)I then take 4 pieces of string, 8 safety pins and make my own custom "garter belt". Clip to the top of the legs in front and back, and to the inside of my skirt at the waist or to the end of my T-shirt that's tucked in. In front and back with the string pulled taut between them, I put the front one to the outside of the area so it won't infringe on my plumbing, and it doesn't. Then I pitch the tights' CROTCH in the trash. My tights never fall below the hem of my skirt, my tights aren't baggy and no skin can be seen at all. If I could buy Thigh Highs my size I'd wear them instead, but I've not been able to find them.

I bought that Hockey player garter belt..they don't accept returns. It doesn't work on skin, very rough and unpleasant. The clips that come with it are over 3 inches across in all directions. Unforgiving plastic and steel. They are made to go over Hockey underpants and hold up heavy socks that go inside a players trousers.
